Welcome, welcome all shakespeare admirers and devotees. Written around 1603, Shakespeare's Othello is one of the Bard's most popular and frequently performed plays and has over 20 film adaptations (Markham, & profile, 2017). Did you know that many terms used in modern society have been formed by Othello? This includes wearing your heart on your sleeve (Ltd, 2017) and It is the green eyed monster which refers to the notion of jealousy. The play Othello is based on the character and protagonist Othello who is a dark skinned african soldier who starts out the novel being accused of stealing his soon-to-be wife Desdemona. However, Desdemona loves Othello immensely and they are to be married much to the dissatisfaction of Desdemona's father Brabantio. In Act 1 scene 3 Iago is persuading Roderigo to join forces for revenge as a direct result of jealousy, stating “There are many events in the womb of time which will be delivered”("No Fear Shakespeare: Othello: Act 1, Scene 3, Page 14", 2017). The use of this literary device ensures the audience understands that Iago has information and is intelligent in knowing that many things happen, take place and change overtime. This particular quote was Shakespeare's way of comparing the events he is planning to a woman’s womb while personifying time as well. Events through time will be developed and lies will grow just like a baby grows in its mom’s womb ("OthellosPigeon - Memorable Quotations", 2017). Time and events develop problems and lies in modern day relationships just like those in Othello.
