Throughout high school, I have always challenged myself to persevere through difficulties as every experience has learning potential. By juggling a part time job, a major club leadership position, and dedication to my basketball team, I have proven to myself that hard work reaps rewards. I strongly believe that I would be a perfect fit in the Gustavson School of Business as I would bring a strong work ethic and a positive attitude to the program.
Working at the Thrifty Foods Bakery for the past two years has taught me more than I ever could have imagined. Over the past few years, I have challenged myself to expand my leadership skills through different extracurriculars. Holding the presidential role in my community service based Interact club is a task that I believe has taught me the most about who I am and where I want to take people. It all started with the courage to speak up with matters that I thought were important. Combatting homelessness in my community is one of my passions, and so many of the volunteer projects I orchestrate carry that theme in mind. Our annual project, "Halloween for Homelessness" involves going door to door asking for non-perishable goods in lieu of traditional candy, to donate back to our community. Last Halloween, my club donated thousands of dollars worth of clothing and food items to the homeless shelter, MANA as a local initiative. I discovered throughout the past couple years that leading a club has everything to do with listening to the valuable ideas of those near while intertwining them into the long-term goals for the group. My elementary school had a team and though I can’t remember my motivations towards initially joining, I reflect on those times and feel so grateful for making the decision to join at ten years old. Amidst my years in school, basketball has always connected me to my school and my peers. In highschool, I met my core group of friends, participating on the team. Following the four years of weekend tournaments, late night practices and road trips to distant games, we have developed together not only as players, but also have grown as a family. Last year, I had a taste for glory as my team qualified for the 2017 Basketball BC Championship. It was an incredible feeling to be placed with other girls my age who were so talented. The entire experience was one to remember as we placed 8th in the province, a feat that took our underdog team by surprise. This year, I have focused on appreciating the sport to the fullest extent while attempting to expand my leadership skills as one of the oldest members on the team. Playing through my senior year has taught me how fast time flies and I am now realizing how much I will truly miss these girls, following
