The educational requirements for Comprehensive Medical Imaging, according to UNLV, is a total of 120 credits to graduate. General Education requirements are a subtotal of 38-39 credits and the major requirements for BS in Comprehensive Medical Imaging is a subtotal of 62-79 credits All students must be admitted into the Pre-CMI program, complete the prerequisites, apply to the CMI degree with a selected concentration. in Comprehensive Medical Imaging are eligible to take the ARRT (American Registry of Radiological Technologists) national registry in magnetic resonance imaging, provided they are certified in radiography or nuclear medicine. Graduates may take the national registry in computed tomography only if they are certified in radiography. A few states require certification as part of their licensure process for ultrasound technicians. In general, though, certification in this field is voluntary. Certification can provide ultrasound technicians with a professional assessment of their skills that employers typically prefer. Registration or certification as a diagnostic medical sonographer can be obtained by passing an ARDMS certification exam. The ARDMS offers certification in various areas of specialty, including breast, abdomen and vascular sonography. Personality is key in the ultrasound field. Ultrasound techs are in direct one-on-one contact with the patients. It’s not uncommon for someone getting a sonogram to have a lot of questions so a polite and friendly bedside manner is often considered an unofficial part of the ultrasound technician job
Diagnostic medical sonography is a profession where sonographers direct high-frequency sound waves into a patient’s body through the use of specific equipment to diagnose or monitor a patient’s medical condition. As described by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this examination is referred to as an ultrasound, sonogram, or echocardiogram. The high-frequency sound waves emitted from the handheld device, called a transducer, bounce back creating an echo and therefore produce an image that can be viewed on the sonographers computer screen. This image provides the sonographer and physician with an internal image of the patient’s body that will be used in the diagnosis. The most familiar use of ultrasound is used in monitoring pregnancies and is provided by obstetric and gynecologic sonographers, who also provide imaging of the female reproductive system. Other types of sonography include; abdominal sonography, breast sonography, musculoskeletal sonography, neurosonography and cardiovascular sonography. Due to the vast nature of uses in sonography, most professionals study one field that they choose to specialize in. Diagnostic medical sonography is a rapidly growing field because of the increase in medical advances. The area of Cleveland, Ohio has continued to rise in the medical field with great strides, providing better career prospects with the availability of numerous employment positions.
The kind of schooling you will need to become a certified ultrasound technician will vary based on your current status in the world of medicine. You will definitely need a high school diploma or a GED before you decide to venture off into training for a sonography certificate. If you have at least that much schooling under your belt, you have three options.

Slone Career Cornerstone Center states that although no state requires licensure in diagnostic medical sonography, organizations such as the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certify the skills and knowledge of sonographers through credentialing, including registration. Because registration provides an independent, objective measure of an individual 's professional standing, many employers prefer to hire registered sonographers. Sonographers registered by the ARDMS are Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS). Registration with ARDMS requires passing a general physical principles and instrumentation examination. Sonographers must complete a required number of continuing education hours to maintain registration with the ARDMS. After graduating with my Bachelor’s degree, I continued to work as a staff MRI technologist. Even though I loved what I did and had a passion helping people, the lack of diversity within radiology and its limited room for growth bothered me. I decided to look into furthering my career and found an interest in Health Information Technology. Upon researching many different schools through the country offering an online graduate Health Information Technology program, the University of Michigan in Dearborn stood out to me. Medicine and technology have both always been a part of my life, and I am very happy and excited that the chance for it to play a new part has finally arrived. Attending Florida Southwestern State College to become an x-ray tech is a huge accomplish for me. Because I have a learning disability unfortunately I have to take remedial courses like intermediate algebra, Brush up English, and a reading course the first semester. The good thing about studying Radiology is you can switch to any type of jobs in this field. For an example, you can switch to working with MRI’s or Cat Scans if you want to try another department in the Radiology field. This specific field is for you to work with x-rays. It’s important to know the bone structure .You can work with ultrasounds to, Cat Scans, to MRI’s (Magnetic resonance imaging).
Positron Emission Tomography is a scanning technique that allows us to measure in detail the functioning of distinct areas of the human brain while the patient is comfortable, conscious and alert. PET represents a type of functional imaging, unlike X-rays or CT scans, which show only structural details within the brain. The differences between these types of imaging don’t end there.
Ultrasound Technicians are very valuable in the world of health care. Also known as Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, an Ultrasound Technician uses special machines and equipment that operates on sound waves to determine or diagnose medical problems for patients. There are specializations within this field in which some individuals explore. For instance, areas of specialization includes but not limited to; pregnancy, heart health, gynecology, and abdominal sonography. Although each specializing branch has its own distinctive function, they all involve probing the body to facilitate doctors with diagnoses.
Although being academically smart is an important factor for this program, there are also other qualities that are just as important if not more. Some of those qualities that can make you an exceptional sonographer are being compassionate, caring, and being able to work well with others. The reason why I said this is because I believe “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care” (John C. Maxwell). Also it’s critical that you understand the concept of teamwork and that you can work well with others. In this field you need to work with doctors and other caregivers to deliver the best care for the patient. I can assure you that if you give me this opportunity to study in this great program, you will not be disappointed, but in fact be pleased, because I will do whatever it takes to complete this program successfully and become a great diagnostic medical sonographer. Swelling of the spleen, kidney stones, blood clots, aneurysms, cancer and so much more can be identified through the works of an ultrasound’s imaging technique. Ultrasound involves many concepts, procedures, and careers. The amount of medical possibilities involved with ultrasounds is useful in major medical diagnostics. The field of ultrasounds and career opportunities are widely growing. As medical careers flourish, needs for technicians in many fields of medicine are increasing. Instead of a doctor choosing complex and risky surgery to find out problems within the body, they can now choose a safer path; the ultrasound path. Patient’s history and physical evaluation are building blocks to diagnostics but ultrasounds are much greater. They are powerful tools used to see beyond the skin into the depths of a person’s body. What ultrasounds are, what types there are, and what they are used for, and the education and careers available are the major themes found in research on the subject. Knowledge of ultrasound and its background may help one decide what career is best for them. Understanding the wide array of diagnostic tests and their uses are essential to figuring out what a career as a sonographer entails and the type of education that is needed. Because there are plenty of possibilities for specializing with different technologies, there is a wide variety of job opportunities in the medical imaging career. According to the ARRT, “The purpose of the Continuing Education (CE) Requirements is to provide a mechanism for Registered Technologists to fulfill their responsibility to maintain competence in their categories of certification.” Essentially, what this means is that both The ASRT and The ARRT require the Radiologic Technologist to prove their competency in the field by completing these credits. Not only does the R.T. need to complete these credits every other year but they also need to renew their registration as a Radiologic Technologist. I graduated from Oakland University in 2010 with Bachelor in Health Science. I have been working at Detroit Medical Center as Medical Technologist (MT) for last 5 years in Clincal Chemistry department. During my experience as a MT, I have realized the importance of the technology in the medical industry. Technology not only helps us to provide effective patient care, but also decrease costs for the provider and patient. With the use of technology, physicians’ orders are entered electronically on rather than on paper using Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE). Using paper costly, time consuming and can cause medical errors. With the introduction of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) which include all patient care data, medication information, their progress notes, lab results. The electronic records allows for the screening of potential medical or clerical errors and problems automatically.
Radiology is a great use of technology today. The use of radiology has been used for many years now. Radiology is used to treat bone injuries or treating diseases. The use of radiology is extremely popular when wanting to see a vivid image of a injury or disease (Doctors). Radiology is a great source for examining the patients’ internal organs and bones due to giving a very detailed image. Radiographs, nuclear medicine, CT, MRI, PET, ultrasound, and a vascular lab are the equipment used to exam the injury of the patient, or the disease the patient might have.
