When I got home from school my Dad had me go get ready for a hour or two hour long drive. I got ready we got in the car and we started driving. On the way there I fell asleep in the car while we were driving. When I woke up we were in Chicago parked in front of the United Center. I got so exited I wanted to get in the stadium as soon as possible even though we we were an hour early. When we had gotten in with our tickets they were handing out free hats. After we went to go watch the BlackHawks practice. After watching the BlackHawks practice we went in a store to go get me a sweatshirt. When we got back to our seats the game was about to start. SOI-The purpose of this creative piece of writing is an entry from one of our hockey games from tournament. I have tried to use a connection to compare battle or war to hockey, to make the story become more brutal and realistic. I have written in first person to show that it is in my perspective and what I recollect from the game.
Basketball is a big part of my life, one year ago in tournament final game two of our best players were hurt and the team was relying on me. With the time winding down on the clock we were down 8 points. Somehow I got our deficit down to two points with 30 seconds left, after an intense defensive stop 10 seconds remained on the clock; our coach called a timeout. A play was drawn up for me to take the shot. Mitchell inbounded the ball to me as I came off of a screen, I had an some-what wide open shot, I took the shot, you could hear the crowd go silent as the ball left my hand and headed towards the basketball. It felt like everything was going slow motion, the ball was getting closer and closer to the hoop and I…….missed it. The buzzer sounded
After that we went over to our bench the bench we sat o was green and white these benches change color according to your team's color. There are 9 people on the field at once from each team 4 attack 4 defence and 3 middie we played U of M it wa fun we destroyed them 91 0 biggest game differential ever! The game is different but is still a lot the same like i told you we were dressed now and are allowed to hit people like in boys lacrosse we don't wear pads though just goggles are gloves are required now. No extending elbows or limbs still. I sent a girl to the hospital i broke her arm. I scored 15 goals and had an awesome time. The goal turns into a star after you score and a rainbow appears. After the game we signed papers and digraphs. After the game me and Emma were tired so we went back to the dorm, and ordered a pizza. The pizza man came and he wore this weird thing it was an apron but it had squirty bottles to clean it off. The pizza guy's truck was the one with the oven and cooler it looks awesome emma said that they have them everywhere. We ordered dr. pepper that came in a 4 liter it was cool we drank it all and then we went to bed watching a movie( it was a double throwback for back to the future). The television was shining bright as the sun in the dark family room, on a nice Saturday afternoon in the mountains of Durango, Colorado. It was barley 7:20 in the evening, on June 19th, 2016 when Barack Obama was still president and the Zika virus was spreading around faster than memes. “Blocked by James!” suddenly is yelled on the the bright television in the dark family room. Lebron James just blocked Andre Iguodala off the backboard. At this moment, all the Golden State Warriors fans in the dark family room erupted in anger, confusion, and stress. My mom and I both yelled “Let’s go!”.
For as long as I can remember, lacrosse has been a necessity in my family. I began playing goalie in fifth grade. Naturally, my ability increased and my skills improved. I received compliments on and off the field. A few houses down from me lives my neighbor, who happened to be head coach of boys lacrosse team for my age group. At some point in the winter of sixth grade, he asked if would be I willing to attempt playing as a goalie for his team. Graciously accepting his offer, my family and I were excited, as I would be the only girl playing in an all boys league. Probably one of the most important decisions I've made in my life happened this year. The decision was me , choosing whether i wanted to do drumline or play hockey. As a freshman going into the first year of highschool, it lead me to think of plenty of things. But one important fact that stuck out was me deciding if I wanted to pursue music or sports. As a freshman , I knew that I couldn't balance sports and marching band at the same time. Rehearsal for marching band happened everyday after school until 5 pm. I knew I couldn't do homework and study for tests with only 3 hours if hockey started at 9. So, I made the decision of choosing drumline over hockey. I encountered a “bump in the road” at a young age. I began playing softball at age six when Kylie, my elementary school friend, came to show and tell with her first place T-ball trophy. At the time, I had only played soccer, but the thought of swinging a bat as hard as I could and having people in the stands cheer for me, inspired me to ask my mother to register me for the local recreational league. Before I knew it, I was lacing up last year’s soccer cleats and stepping up to bat in my first coach-pitch softball game. My father, being the coach, stood on the mound and lobbed in the fattest meatball every hitter dreams of. With the ding of my second-hand garage sale bat, the ball sailed over the shortstop. Some may have called it beginner's luck, but I called it a sign.
After we relaxed for a long time, it was time for me to go and wash off all of the seaweed my hair had collected. I turn on the shower and there is a huge spider waiting for me just sitting there waiting for me. I killed it and then resumed my shower. After I got out and we were all ready leave we didn’t know where to go. Until my sister saw a commercial for this really cool place with alligators and a Ferris wheel, we decided to go there. As we pulled up to the place we noticed that there was an amazing Ferris wheel and I immediately got really excited. But my parents said that I have to wait until after dinner. When most people hear the word hockey, they think about skating, ice, and a puck. What most people do not think about is running, the blistering heat, and a small orange ball, however, I do. That is because I play dek hockey, not ice, meaning that we run, and our season is never over. Playing hockey is my favorite thing to do, and I have so many fond memories. Some of those memories are, playing hockey at Bill’s Golfland, U.S.A. Ball Hockey Tryouts, and playing at Penn Hills Dek Hockey.
I was 5 years old, I was shy and didn’t have much courage and talk to people. Making friends was always hard. I cried in my room for hours wishing my dad would not go, a whole month without him seemed like the end of the world. I would have no one to play hockey with, no one to tuck me in at night and no one to eat donuts with every Friday. My dad tried to console me but I was too angry to listen to him, I suddenly hated my grandpa for causing my dad to leave me alone. At the airport my dad gave me a long hug and told me to be brave since I was now “the man of the house,” (even though I am a girl), I had to take care of my mom. Promptly this made me suck in my tears and stop acting like a “loser.” It was hard repressing my feelings, seeing my dad leave made my eyes tear severely but I held them back, the man of the house does not cry. I remember it as clear as day. It had been a fairly normal week, and a routine average day. It was a Friday and I was driving home from school in my trusty Toyota Tercel. I was getting into the dreaded mental set of the game that I would be playing in that night. I had to play in the band at halftime and it was the first performance of the season. The whole ride to my house I thought about the game and hoped and prayed that we wouldn't make huge fools of ourselves. Before I knew it, I was already home. I remember thinking that it felt like the shortest drive ever, getting to beautiful Rolling Oaks. When I got home, little did I know, that there would be a huge surprise waiting for me that would change my life forever.
One day in the midst of summer, my friend Mike and I got off from a hard day of work and were on our way to the mall. While at work we had planned to meet a few people there. I was going to be seeing my friend Jessica who I had not talked to in years. Before leaving, we stopped off at our houses, took showers, and got ready. As I anxiously waited on the stairs for his car to roll into the driveway, my mom said, “Be careful and do not drive like an idiot.” I obviously said alright and she was on her way. Minutes later I see my friend Mike pull into the driveway. I slipped my feet into my shoes and got in his car. We were almost to the mall when his phone rang. He picked it up and said, “Hello?” It was my mom and she wanted to speak to me. Upon putting the phone to my ear she told me that I had to come home right away. She said that my dad had just gotten into a car crash and that I had to come home and watch my sister. I did not know how to break the news to Mike, that what we were anticipating all day would not happen. He was upset, but he understood what was going on. I came home thinking it was the same old same old; he had gotten hit by a drunk driver, the car got totaled, and he was fine.
