Tina and I will be traveling by plane leaving August 3rd and returning August 19th. We chose Santiago because we wanted to explore somewhere we had never been. We saw pictures that were beautiful and found that Santiago was a safe place to visit. According to the Safe Cities Index, recently prepared by Economist, Santiago is the safest city in Latin America (travel, Chile, safety). At the same time, Chile is among South Americas most peaceful countries, being part of the ranking of countries in the region with the

The national dance is called Cueca, while there is a traditional song without a dance that is called Tonada (culture of Chile). I cannot wait to learn their songs and dances, it sounds like fun! I am looking forward trying their Chilean cuisine also. Chilean cuisine uses a variety of products due to Chile’s location and long coastline (culture of Chile). Some of their notable dishes are—Arrollado de Huaso(es), Charquican, Curanto, Pastel de Pascua (culture of Chile).I am willing to try new foods and if I really like something I may bring a recipe or two home to make when I return. Rodeo is their second most popular sport which was declared the national sport in 1962 (culture of Chile). Rodeo in Chile differs from rodeo that we know of in North America. The riders earn points for every time a steer is properly driven around the arena (culture of Chile). There may be a chance Tina and I will be able to see a rodeo or …show more content…

Daily life in Chile depends on where you are located within the country. With it being almost 4500 miles long, the geography, the culture, and even the economy depends on the location. The north end, closest to Peru, is known for its agricultural resources, especially in mining. The central part, specifically Santiago, which is the nation’s capital and where most of Chile’s population is located, is the center of business. The south though, is colder, with thick forests that make growing seasons short. Despite the large differences even nation-wide, Chile is growing quickly. In 2013, Bloomberg found that “Chile’s economy grew by 5.5% in the last year—faster than predicted, and significant growth during a period when much of the world has seen only [small] economic expansion. Since colonial times, the Chilean culture has been a mix of Spanish colonial elements with indigenous (mostly Mapuche) culture. The Huasos of Central Chile and their folk music and dance are central to Chilean folk culture. Even though the folk traditions the Central Chile are central to Chilean cultural and national identity, Chile is both geographically and culturally diverse with both the North and the South having their own folk music and dance due to different indigenous peoples and immigrant groups settling there. Additionally, while some regions of Chile have very strong indigenous heritage, such as Araucanía Region, Easter Island, and Arica y Parinacota Region, some regions lacks considerable indigenous communities and a few other regions have noteworthy non-Spanish European immigrant
The Spanish eating, drinking and dancing culture steps up a gear (if that's possible), when there's a festival on. Every town or village has a local fiesta, at which point the locals don't just eat and drink because it's fun, they do so because it would be un-Spanish not to.

Social manners portray how an individual or person carry themselves or act in an appropriate manner. In the poem “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid, Kincaid demonstrates a monologue relationship between a mother and her young daughter, coaching her to practice good manners through some traditional suavities. “this is how you set a table for tea, this is how you set a table for dinner; this is how you set a table for an important guest” (Kincaid). Here the mother is guiding her on the different steps of setting a table for different occasions and making certain she focused on establishing a pleasant environment for everyone at the table. Thus, enlightening her which sides on the table each utensil goes, gives her the opportunity to avoid persnickety
