If I were to go anywhere for just 12 hours it would be Tikal, Guatemala. It’s so pretty and green there with lots of unique animals like monkeys, parrots, coatis and turkeys, which you can only see at zoos in America but in Guatemala they just roam around everywhere in the jungles. The weather is very nice as well, It is always warm and very humid but it feels great. It is an awesome place to learn new things, volunteer to help people that are in poverty since it is a third world country,and it's an awesome place to relax and have a good time! Guatemala is very family friendly and people of all ages will enjoy anything you decide to do. It's very different than anything that there is in the United States. One attraction that is amazing is the mayan ruins. There are huge temples that you get to go through and they are nothing like you’ve ever seen before. You can get a tour guide while you are there to educate you more on what you are looking at or you can just go along by yourself. They were built around (AD 682–734) and found in between 1955 and 1964. They’re very big and they have a lot of stairs. So you’d want to bring a lot of water. It is similar to Mexican food in some ways but it is also very differently. Guatemala definitely has it's own taste. Tikal doesn’t have many modern things so there is only about four restaurants around the ruins because they want to keep it how they found it and not ruin any of the ancient grounds. The Comedor Tikal has a variety of foods like huevos, homelettes, and sandwiches. Although there will probably be a lot of people there since there is so few restaurants, it would be a great place to have a quick bite to eat and learn how the food is made and tastes in the Guatemalan culture

The thought of traveling sounds so fun, interesting and spontaneous. The two places I hope to travel to the most are Puerto Rico and Germany. I would like to travel to Puerto Rico because I would love to learn more about the place I was descended from. My reasoning for wanting to travel to Germany is because it’s outside the U.S. I have never been to another country, and I’m curious to see how different it is from here. Nayarit and Yucatan have proven to be beautiful destinations and rich in history. These two states separated by hundreds of miles have proven to have similar concepts but no similar context. The reason being is they both had indigenous influences in what and who there people are today. The foods and traditions that have came from these two states are both unique a portray there agriculture and livestock from the heavy porked based products to the yummy catch of the day on there coastlines. These two places have become Vacation destinations worldwide from the ruins in Yucatan to the snorkeling in Nayarit. These two states demonstrate the beautiful side of Mexico instead of what we see on the news that only occurs in certain regions.
I never understood the American Dream until my mom took me away to the Dominican Republic. I was 7 years old when my life changed completely. I would have to live In a new country, new house, and attend a new school. Everything was different from what I was used to. And although my mom spoke Spanish, when I arrived to the DR I barely knew any. I was In second grade and I was the only one In my class who did not know how to write In spanish, or In script. It was a process for me to adjust to the new life I was given. However since the moment I arrived In the Dominican Republic I wanted to come back to the States. I missed everything, from my friends, to the city, to McDonald's happy meals.
Guatemala is where I was born, land of many trees, thats where I grew up surrounded in nature until I was six when my mom and I immigrated to the U.S to reunite with my father. When I was growing up in I was always an adventurous girl seeking new things to do. Today I continue to be this curious girl who likes to discover and try new things. I was stuck as the only child for ten years and I would always see my parents argue and being the only child, then I did not have someone whom I ran to for help and was stuck in the middle of everything. It came to the point where my parents were going to divorce, but thankfully they did not but they kept on having disagreements. I lost the value of myself, not knowing who I was where I was headed and I never had the gut to to tell my parents what I was feeling, but when I did they never knew what to do and that just made me feel alone and became a self centered
I can remember leaving my home in Haiti with only my favorite stuffed bunny in hand as we drove to the airport. As I sat next to my sister I could see the plane leaving the only place I’ve ever known, take off across the Caribbean Sea. My dad brought his family to the United States to give us a better chance at succeeding in life. My parents have always instilled that we could not take this opportunity for granted and that no one in this country would give you handouts. As I grew up, I’ve seen my parents struggle and face many hardships that I work hard to not have to deal with in the future.
I desperately attempted to free myself from the relentless grasp of boredom. I looked out the window, but like the thousand times before, I saw nothing but farmland hugging the earth for miles. I was visiting my dad's home country, the Dominican Republic, for the first time in my life. The night before I couldn’t sleep. Every time I closed my eyes the thoughts of all the enjoyable activities I would be doing flooded my mind. I couldn’t wait to go out to sea on my Uncle's small fishing boat, swimming in the crystal clear waters surrounding Punta Cana, and kayaking to a small nearby island with my parents. But first, I would have to experience a 3 hour long drive to go to the quinceanera of a cousin that I had never even met.

Food is one of human beings favorite addiction. From the arepas, to arroz con coco (coconut rice) there are many different platters from my cultural background. Being Colombian and eating Colombian almost every day brings me closer to these aspects from my culture. The way I feel connected to my Colombian culture is through its food. Many of the meals that I have eaten in my life come from my Colombian culture. Whether I’m home, at my aunt’s house or a family party something that is being made connects me back to my food roots.
This past summer, I was privileged enough to travel to the Dominican Republic through the Global Glimpse program, which has eminently impacted the person I am today. I have to confess that this trip was by far the most challenging, yet extraordinary I have ever experienced. Before going on this trip I always had an idea of what poverty is like, but I didn’t intentionally know how I would feel about it. Through this trip, I was fortunate enough to speak to different communities who were facing poverty and was given the chance to personally talk to the community of the Bejuco Aplastado, where I worked on a Community Action Project. Regardless of the struggles the orphans and locals have to unfortunately face, they never fail to put a smile on their face.
Chichen Itza is a historical site in Mexico located on the Yucatán Peninsula. The city was once a populated Mayan city. At one point Chichen Itza was a major part of the Northern Mayan Lowlands.
