Personal Narrative: My Old Nintendo 64

For this assignment, I have selected my old Nintendo 64. It was purchased, I believe, back in 1999. Due to it being a game console, I’d say that the main use for it was to have fun with friends and family. At least that’s what I did with it back in my days a kid. I’d play games on it, from sun up to sun down. I have a lot of great memories playing it, just by myself and with my friends and family. It was the best way to spend a day, when you were a little kid in elementary school. The main usage of game consoles, as a medium, however, was to store a variety of data from different games and translate information digitally from one device to another, via controller to console, and console to the television screen. This means that the information the user gave the console allowed the television screen to give new information right back to the controller. This is a process that is repeated throughout the entire game. I believe that the medium that the gaming consoles would fall under is durable. Especially nowadays. That being said, I think I lean more on the “Individual” side, just a tad more. I think this is mostly because the user and the console interact directly with one another. There are no outside sources acting on the decisions that are made inside of the game or the console. Even the game’s settings have the ability to be changed by the person who’s controlling the game, itself. If the game consists of a story mode, then (most of the time) the user’s actions are predetermined so they can advance onto the next level or stage until the game’s completion. The game’s controller just has to follow through with the things the game asks of them to do. I think it also fits because different games can have multiple save records on them from different players. Each one stores a different amount of progress and items, including time
