Recommended: Why extracurricular activities are important

When I had first started going to Unity High School my thought about the school was it was going to be hard and feeling nervous about coming the first week. I was feeling nervous the first week at Unity High School first because I didn't know anyone. After a while of being here at Unity High School I felt more comfortable because I started to see who I was going to be around and I found more people to talk to. My feeling about high school before was just wanting to hurry up and make these four years go by fast. Today I still do feel the same and just trying to become a better person by coming to school. I never went to after school programs there just not for me. I think in my opinion that it is a waste of time going to after school programs because I rather be home eating or playing video games. Growing up thinking about high school I believe it is the same as middle school and elementary just more proper and more skills you have to learn. At the start of the school year I thought school was going to be easy but it really isn't. I believe it is easier to learn when your simply paying attention.     I not only had the fear of starting high school, like everyone else, but I also had the fear of starting a brand new school, with no one I knew, people who have known each other since kindergarten. I didn’t know what it was going to be like, if I would fit in, if making new friends was going to be easy, or even how big the school was. I was never involved in sports, my freshman year I tried out for the cheerleading team; I MADE IT! All the students and teachers were greatly welcoming; it wasn’t highly diverse at all. If I would have graduated from there, there would have been only four African americans in my graduating class. From experience and in my opinion, racism is a big cause of violence and causes more drugs; this school didn’t have any violence and very little drug use from what I saw of students.
