Personal Narrative: My Experience With Failure

My first experience with failure was in my 7th and 8th grade years. They were my first years playing organized football. I did not get to play very much, and I had to stand on the sidelines for most of the season. My team in middle school was very good and we only lost two games combined in those two years. I felt angry and sad because I really wanted to play and help the team, but it was obvious to me that I wasn't good enough. It made me feel like a failure because I had begged my parents to let me play, and I wasn't very good. It made me want to work harder and get better. In my 9th grade year, I thought that I would play more, but I suffered a stress fracture in my foot during the second week of football camp. This made me irate because I did not get a chance to play at all that year. I ended up missing the entire season, and I decided to film each game so I could contribute in some way. I attended all of the offseason workouts with the coaches and did everything they asked of me. I continued to learn my position, defensive end, and by the end of camp I was second string and feeling much more comfortable. I was excited to know I had a chance of playing varsity football. After we played our first two scrimmages, I was continuing to grow as a player. I was able to understand the game much better after these scrimmages because it was my first game action of the season. During the first game of the season, my defensive coach came up to me and said that I was getting a chance to prove myself and earn a position. I knew that I had to perform, so when I entered the game, I played my hardest and ended up earning a starting spot on varsity. I was overjoyed with being a starter on varsity because 5 weeks earlier, I was just hoping to make the varsity
