School's out for the summer! Seems like just yesterday I was humming along to that song, and now school is back in and summer is almost out. The kids are back in school, night time routines are back in place, back to school shopping is over and homework is being done. The school week is spent doing work sent home from school, and the weekends are spent with family. I can't believe that the year is almost over. Can you? As a family, I like spending time together, doing things as a family and that includes our movie nights and one of the ways we enjoy our movies is by having XFINITY X1 services. I don't know about you, but there is no way that I can live in a home without access to a television. I'm going to be honest here and say that I don't always remember what channels are on our TV, and with a pre-schooler who has her own shows, and the older kids who watches something different entirely, it's good to know that I don't have to remember the channels anymore. In the articles “The Box That Changed America” by Lauren Tarshis and “Television Transformed” also by Lauren Tarshis, they show ways of how americans are drawn to TV because of everything it offers. In the article “Television Transformed” by Lauren Tarshis, it shows how more interesting TV is, and how everyone can watch what they want. The article states, “The number of quality shows is higher than ever, with far more diversity in casting. Families no longer have to fight over what to watch because individual family members can watch what they want on their own devices”(Tarshis 23). This shows how families no longer have to fight, because everyone get watch on their own technology. Plus, now there is a bigger variety of what they can watch.

Additionally, parents expressed a difficult time getting their children to do homework during key television programming times. In general, this is evidence that consumers want greater control over their television consumption habits. Analysis of the TiVo Corporation reveals their core competencies, which include proprietary software, national distribution through established retail outlets such as Best Buy, Circuit City and Sears and product co-branding with trusted electronics giants Philips and Sony.
I was born and raised in Vietnam, so I naturally observed my culture from my family and my previous schools. I learned most of my culture by watching and coping the ways my family do things. My family and my friends all spoke Vietnamese, so I eventually knew how to speak and understand deeply about my language as I grew up. At home, my mom cooked many Vietnamese foods, and she also taught me to cook Vietnamese food. So I became accustom Vietnamese food. I also learned that grandparents and parents in my culture are taken care of until they die. At school, I learned to address people formally and greet higher-ranking people first. In Vietnamese culture, ranking and status are not related to wealth, so they are concerned with age and education.
I was practicing the routine for my opening act, for the Broadway musical "The Sound of music." I am an actress playing the lead role of the main character Maria. My director Jane Marshall says," Barbara, you only have twenty minutes until your performance." My only chance to start a satisfying reputation for myself and please the audience. As I listened to those words come out of my directors mouth, that's when it dawned on me. I will only have one chance to do it right. I wouldn't want to cause any disarrays.

The broadcasters also contend that many Americans subscribe to cable or satellite television where there are many channels and children will opt for programs on Nickelodeon or Disney over what the broadcasting station has to offer.
Summer is the time of year to let loose and have fun. School is out and there are no deadlines to meet, papers to write, or grades to fret over. The summer before third grade is definitely the one to remember. It was a time to watch the stars, get caught in the rain, and really learn how minor moments can mean so much more.
My life intersects with Into The Wild because I never had a good relationship with my mom or stepfather Dan who was 21 years older than my mother. So I “escaped” to Columbia much like Chris did from his own reality. Dan would drink every day; you would rarely see him without a drink in his hand. His drink of choice would be either whiskey or beer depending on what he could afford. You could always tell when he was smashed and when he was I was the person he wanted to tear down with his words the most. I remember one night after my grandma just had surgery and she was staying with us my mom asked me to cook. I told her I would. I then went outside to check what I was grilling and I knew Dan was out there intoxicated.

Don’t get me wrong, I love TV, and I feel that it is one of the most important inventions that this world has been blessed with; but I feel that it is taking away from some of the “realness” of our lives. People are becoming less healthy, they are developing eye and other health problems, and they don’t know what is real and what is not any more. I hope that in the future television designers and makers can develop so new technologies that would improve and not worsen our environment. The television is a very helpful and important tool that has had a great impact on our society, but we need to be aware of how this tool has also affected out environment as well, so next time you watch you television, think about what impact you might be having on our environment!
