Eternal Journey After the dog days of summer, it was finally the first day of school. I was super excited about being a fourth grade student. One of the biggest reasons for this excitement was being able to take an English course for the first time. My cousin, Mehmet, was an English teacher and he taught me some basic words and forms of English during the summer, so I was feeling ready to learn English at school. I was surprised when I saw Mr. Tayfun in our class, because he was our math teacher and it was supposed to be English class. It turned out that he was going to teach us English. Such a disappointment! I even did not like him in his Math class and it was obvious he was going to be worse in English class. ‘‘Children, he said, English is a really weird language. The spelling is the same, but the pronounciation is different.’’ He laughed. We were all like: ‘‘What is he talking about?’’. Unfortunately, it was not a good start to learn this new language for me. During one year, I did not learn anything more than what my cousin had taught me that summer. Just simple words and some daily talk phrases that is all. Mr. Tayfun was aware that I was not happy. Ms. Banu was the one for me. She never spoke Turkish during English classes and she never heard us when we spoke Turkish or asked her something in Turkish. I was really impressed her teaching style. Contrary to other English teachers, she always forced us to speak English. In a really short time, she taught me many words that I had never heard before. Her methods and techniques were completely different than any other teachers. I’ll never understand why she left us after only 6 months. I was completely devistated by this
