Personal Narrative Essay: The Hardest Day Of My Life

It was a warm, fall day in September. Josh and I were on our usual walk during our lunch breaks. We liked to get out of our offices and enjoy some fresh air together. We worked about three blocks away from each other so it worked out perfectly. This was going to be our last lunch together for a few days though because Josh was going out of town.
“You look as gorgeous as ever,” Josh said with a radiant smile on his face.
I blushed, smiling back and said, “Why thank you sir, as do you.”
This is one of the reasons why I loved Josh so much, he always knew what to say and was a true gentleman. We will meet again someday,” I say to myself as I lay in bed at night.
The morning I got the phone call was the hardest day of my life.
The doctor called and said, “I’m sorry Jill but your fiancé has been in a terrible plane crash and he isn’t going to make it.”
My body shook with disbelief. He was flying out to Virginia to visit his mother who was ill. Why would God do this to me? We were going to live in our yellow house, get married, and have three kids of our own. I can still remember his last words before he left.
“You better not run away while I’m gone,” he said, trying to be all cute and serious. Everything changed so fast.
To this day I still go to our favorite bagel shop and sit at our table where we had our last lunch break together. I miss his eyes that would shine like the stars and his cute dimples he would get when he smiled. The house hasn’t felt the same since he left me two years ago. It has this cloud of darkness that floats within. I know he wants me to move on and be happy again. He wants there to be feet running down the long hallway, food cooking in the kitchen, and happiness throughout the whole house. Maybe one day I can find my second best
