Growing up in a diverse neighborhood in California laid the foundation for who I would become. It had also built my views to an extent, expanding by the events that would occur in my life. I was able to witness a number of different unique cultures and customs within. Whether these experiences came from my school to those I meet at church, my appreciation, and effort to stand out in society grew. However, a time in my life had come where I moved from coast to coast entering the unknown world of a small suburban town. Day by day, the weeks would go on and my passion towards cultural diversity that existed began to crumble. The town I had been living in did not meet my conceived thoughts. At one point, I realized the lack of expression. Not
Cultural diversity is an important element. Often times we acknowledge cultural diversity but we don’t quite understand it simply because we do not live it. With this novel, readers can understand cultural
The climate and landscapes of America are as diverse as the 300 million people that live here, and the choices to which region to live this often determined by the cultures and traditions of its people. Most citizens chose to live in (or around) one of America’s largest cities, where you will be exposed to the unlimited diversity of races, cultures, art and architecture. Other people may prefer to live in much smaller cities or towns, where one culture may be more traditional and consistent. There are many American’s who prefer to live in a more rural or private area, like in remote mountains, isolated forests or vast desserts. Yet wherever a person lives within the United States of America, there will be a blending of heritages, the mixing of traditions and the merging lifestyles. The immense combinations of people and cultures have been brought here from all around the world. Since the beginning of the Spanish settlements in the West, to the earliest European colony in the East, America has had a great mix of multicultural peoples living together. For instance the millions of ‘Native Americans’(living amongst their native cultures for thousands of years) were the first peoples/tribes encountered by European inhabitors when reaching this continent (which later became the United States of America). This excessive gathering of diverse peoples: in a new land, holding on to their own customs and cultures, has created the America we know today. This combination of multi-cultural people, are who formed together and later gained their independence through war and became a strong and powerful nation. The history of America’s ‘mixed inhabitants’ is complex yet fascinating. America has been called ‘The Melting Pot’ of the world, ...

The most hard prove was live without having my mom at my side, since I live with my aunt now; when the days passed here in the U.S I started to depressed myself because I missed so much my house and all my family, one day in the middle of the night I call my mom crying and I told her that I really want go back to Mexico, but she didn’t take into account my desire my mom just explained me that it will be the best for my future and with the time I will be thankful with her for don’t let me go back. California is full of beauty, a beauty that is constantly glamourized, and falsely advertised. There is a constant battle against the stereotypes presented in the media, which have created a false image of this massive state. The media presents an insufficient amount of information about California that impedes the outsiders to fully understand the beauty of this state. The media focuses on the tourist attractions of California, like, beaches, Los Angeles, Hollywood, and San Francisco. Although these attractions are appealing, the spotlight should also highlight the impoverished cities, the cultural and geographical diversity. The diversity here in California is clearly visible, which is something that is not clearly seen all over the United
I would like to consider my cultural heritage as diverse, but this is far from reality. Over the years as I matured through my teenage years, I was exposed to different cultures by life experiences and travel. I struggled to create both a personal and cultural identity while trying to adjust to my sight loss and with the support of my family I traveled overseas to experience other cultures for the first time. My family opened up their home to a foreign exchange program in turn allowing me the opportunity to travel over to Europe at the age of 16 years old. This opportunity started the slow progression of experiences that would open my mind to others who are unlike myself, especially traveling to a strange place and feeling different in a mainstream culture. It was not until the past 5 or 6 years until I fully accepted my disability that changed my view on being different, whether it’s race, class, gender or disability. Before this time period, my own fear of being different was so intense that I thought my weakness (disability) made me inferior of not only other cultures, but also my own family members.
Growing up in a Latino community has humbled my vision of life in this country. Experiencing the societal effects that immigration policies and economic policies have on Latinos first hand has impacted me tremendously. My parents immigrated to this country hoping to find a better life for themselves and their kids. Unfortunately, being undocumented presents various challenges in this country. For this reason, since I was around 7 years old I would help my mother and father work. I still remember going to, what seemed to me at the time, as gigantic houses with my mother wondering why the kids there didn’t have to help their mothers work like me. The idea of socioeconomically privileged cultures ultimately became a topic I learned at a young age and became something that motivates me to succeed still today.
Growing up in Florida, the prevalence of a diverse society has always been evident to me. While realizing at a young age how many differences exist in my hometown of Orlando, I eagerly wanted to become a part of each segment of my world. From a young age, my parents could tell that I had an interest in the international cultures in my life.

Home of silicone implants and Silicon Valley, California is the center of innovation. The environment cultivated in California allows industries such as entertainment, technology, and agriculture to thrive. Diversity is found amongst the terrains and communities. The positive attributes of California attract many to immigrate into the state. While the population increase brings more diversity to California, a disconnection between an individual and community grow. The disconnection results in more “outsiders.” The negative connotation of “outsider” makes people ashamed of being different; yet, leaders are praised for their outside of the box ideas. People who are outsiders are able to utilize their obscure perspective to their advantage and
Ryan Torresin grew up in the cold, and to my surprise diverse, city of Toronto. He told me how the town he lived in was populated with a wide range of races (blacks, whites, Asians), languages (French, English) and religions (Christian, Catholic, Je...
Coming from China and now have been living in United States for many years. I still found it is fascinating that there are so many different identities in the United States, from different ethnics, sexual orientations, political positions and so on. I came here with the America dream like many other who came here before me, I believed that America is one of the greatest nation, a land has the values that the people believe in.
These experiences have helped me to see and embrace the differences of others. My Hispanic culture has allowed me to become a collectivist, family oriented individual. I put others first and care about what will benefit the majority. My previous volunteer experiences within my community has also shaped my choices. I participated in Flip for Autism, a gymnastics event for those with physical and intellectual disabilities. This event opened my eyes to the many great accomplishments and limitlessness of those with disabilities and furthermore confirmed my professional
Different cultures, or environments make up how people live their lives and how they may act on a daily basis. These cultures are common all throughout the world, even throughout the different places within the United States. Going on my school trip to New York City made me aware of these cultures changes and when are plane landed back in Minnesota I was so thankful to be back to the places and faces I had always been used to.
I came from a suburban town that has always given me great opportunities growing up including my schooling. I really learned to appreciate being a student and how important that was once I came to college, however, looking back I have grown a greater awareness for the opportunities I was given growing up. I know that without the schooling I had and the teachers who impacted my education career, I would not be where I am today. This is why I feel so strongly about culturally identifying myself with being a
Growing up in a massive neighborhood magnificent. My neighborhood flooded with kids around my age to hang out with. Occupying the edge of this neighborhood was a large park where the neighborhood’s kids and I would spend most of our time eliminating their boredom. When this park would not satisfy our needs, there were
