When making a decision on where to attend college as a working adult with a family, I had to find a college that could accommodate my busy lifestyle. My husband, as a Marion Technical College (MTC) alum, suggested that I give MTC a try and see what they offered. Upon further research and a trip to campus, I quickly realized MTC was the perfect option for me with online classes, helpful staff, affordable tuition, and a convenient location. I started classes in Fall of 2013 and found many additional benefits after becoming a student. I was able to become a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) and am currently the President of the Beta Nu Pi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. I hope to leave NC State as a young adult who is ready and prepared to enter society with a determined mindset and hard work ethic. I believe that I will be perfectly capable of achieving my goals and and aspirations as an NC graduate, and will graduate with the experience to take on challenges that may await me in a future career. Although I am still unsure of my desired field of study, I am confident that I will be able to discover a career path I will enjoy through the Exploratory Studies college. The purpose of this letter is to inform you about my interest in becoming a member of The Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I sought out membership because the members exemplify the epitome of class, grace, and standards. For the past few decades, receiving a college education has been a stressed importance in today’s society. However it is often misunderstood that attending a 4-year school is the best and only way to go. Following this belief, many students attend these schools with out being academically, financially, or mentally prepared. Unfortunately students like this have failed to over look the more realistic options available to them, such as community college. Junior college is a resource available to anyone regardless of his or her previous academic performance. The variety of courses and the inexpensive tuition gives students flexibility to explore the many options presented to them. Though Universities hold more prestige, community colleges provide endless opportunities for students who aren’t fully prepared for a 4-year education
I have maintained a 4.35 weighted GPA throughout my four years at Payette High School, while taking and succeeding in the most challenging classes offered, such as Honors Calculus, D.C. Chemistry 111, D.C. English 4, and Physics. I have been awarded with the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, and Payette’s parade of champion honor all four years (For having above a 4.0 GPA). My proudest accomplishments though have come through my club, sport, and community service involvement. The activity that had the most impact on was participating in The American Legion Gem Boys State program over the summer of 2017. I learned a great amount about the procedures and role of politics in this country, and it spiked my interest in political science. I am the current Senior Class President of Payette High School, and have been in student council every year since 6th grade, and I am thankful that my classmates have trusted me enough over the years to elect me for this honor. I am involved with the Payette DECA chapter, which competes in competitions based around business management, finance, and marketing skills. When I was first inducted in the National Technical Honor Society, we were lacking in numbers and character. Our members were not involved and we weren’t taken seriously on campus, I decided that my high school chapter of the National Technical Honor Society needed a leader that was willing to seriously dedicate their time and energy to the organization. Since then I have held a leadership position every year. With my help and the help of like-minded individuals the National Technical Honor Society chapter at my high school has done a complete 180-degree spin from when I first arrived. We even raised enough money last year to give out three five hundred dollar scholarships to outgoing seniors. This progress however did not come easy; It took great perseverance from myself and the dedicated members of the National Technical Honor Society. Through this experience I have learned how to persevere in a predicament, which will help me on the long journey I have until I complete my career
I am sure that not too many graduates from WCU can claim to be an alumnus times three! I have had the privilege of receiving my Bachelor’s degree, my Master’s degree, and most recently my Doctoral degree from the newly designed Educational Leadership program at WCU. I have had the honor of taking classes from some of WCU’s paramount professors, including Jane Schultz, Ellen Bacon, Lisa Bloom, Casey Hurley, Robert Crow, Kofi Lomotey, Kathleen Jorrisen, Anne Allen, and David Sutton. Walking into college, I always wanted to join a brotherhood. But, it was hard to find the one for me at first. After striking out on a few other fraternities at SEMO, I didn’t know if Greek Life was for me. But after talking one night with Brian Smith, I would give my one last shot to Sigma Nu. Looking back, I couldn’t have been happier with my decision. Over the past few months I have grown into a better person and have achieved goals I wouldn’t have even thought about being able to achieve. Looking back throughout my candidate process I can say I have strived for Love, Truth, and Honor.
Because of the town I lived in and the friends I had, it was not uncommon for other students to act surprised when I told them I was in the top 10 of my class or that I didn’t smoke weed. Living in a middle-class family with a very supportive mother that believes I can do more with my life than get high and party has helped me steer clear of drugs. I believe that I need my head as clear as possible and a college education to achieve my aspirations. Thomas College will help me achieve my goals. Additionally, prestigious institutions need to take initiative to create new programs that will make college a painless transition for first generation students by implementing new policies such as mentorship or clubs. While many colleges and universities have not taken the initiative to help first-generation students, North Carolina State University is one of the few exceptions. As a fellow first generation college student at North Carolina State University, I have reaped many benefits from the different organizations they have around campus. At the Poole College of Management, I was assigned a professional mentor in my future line of work that made the transition into college a better experience for me. After listening to his forums, I was able to use the skills I had learnt from my parents and apply them to college and my study habits, benefiting me in countless ways.
Continuing my pursuit for higher education was non-negotiable; it was a must for me, at least in my eyes. I knew if I wanted to become a valuable asset to society, I would have to continue my education. This led to my executive decision to become a Saint and set me on the path to academic success. The reason why I came to Presentation College was because of the fact that it had the major I wanted and I could continue my athletic career with the Saints. For that reason, I was oblivious to what else Presentation College would have to offer for me. It was slowly but surely turning me into a grown man.
Since I was young, there is something electrifying about receiving mail, and this was amplified when I would receive mail from my future home. I would jump up and down if anything related to Oklahoma State University was addressed in my name, even if it addressed bursar or something routine. While receiving this mail, I never stopped to think about the individuals that created the cards to make me feel so happy; however, while job searching, I found a wonderful internship that takes place right here on the Oklahoma State campus. This internship is for creating flyers and images for future students. Job searching is not an easy task; however, Oklahoma State’s Hire OSU Grads organization creates a straightforward and accessible way for students to find jobs or internships. I have found an internship that would be great for furthering my experience in the work world. In this internship, I would be working directly on campus in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. I would create graphics, mail flyers, brochures, and post on social media. In addition, this internship would help me grow as a business major; I would be able to obtain
During my undergraduate career, I conducted research which resulted in a professional journal submission, maintained full time student status, earned exceptional grades, found time to serve as Psi Chi chapter President, and worked full time as a graphic designer and real estate agent. These accomplishments are a reflection of motivation, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a deep commitment to quality performance. I grew up in Hastings, MN. I attended both Loyola University in Chicago and Colorado State University my freshman year. Then, I chose to transfer to University of Minnesota to alleviate financial stress and pursue a major in Family Social Science with a minor in Leadership. Due to my own family’s financial difficulties after my parents divorced, I have not been gifted the opportunities my peers have to travel to other countries or do extra activities as I need to pay for my education and living expenses. My academic background consists of two phases. My first college attempt, 1997-2002, was unsuccessful due largely to distraction caused by my father’s illness. The second phase started in 2009 with a new major, Consumer Economics, which better suited my interests. I was able to narrow the scope of my degree further and focused on policy creation, analysis, and implementation. During this phase, I earned a 3.7 GPA while working full-time at the University of Georgia. Although it took longer than normal to complete my undergraduate education, it is to date my greatest success; however, my educational growth is not finished. I have goals and ambitions that inspire me to continue onward until I am in possession of my graduate degree. My journey to a college education has been filled with experiences that have stunted but not stopped my growth. I am confident that, come what may, I will accomplish the goals that I’ve set. It is this perseverance that qualifies me as an excellent candidate for the Master’s in Public Administration at Columbus State University.
My quest toward a higher education was by no means a simple one. Even now, at CSU, I had to defer my admission for one semester for an internship at Cleveland Clinic to earn money to pay for my classes. Nevertheless, all of my opportunities and challenges had some kind of positive impact on my education. I hope to continue my education here at CSU and attain a Master's degree in Computer and Information Science. I am applying to the Honors Program here to both stimulate myself with more work and provide me with an opportunity in the form of scholarships. If my past has taught me anything, it's that challenges and opportunities combined offer a great environment for learning and improvement.
