My love of the U.S military had always been the guiding light in what I thought my future would be. I knew I would join the military, I was unwaveringly certain; in my mind, there was nothing that would get in my way. I strove to adhere to the principles of what I thought a soldier should be. I did my utmost to live with honor, I tirelessly honed my physical prowess, I selflessly endeavored to serve my local community, and I loved the country which provided my family with many an opportunity.
This, at the time, version of me, unfortunately, did not see it necessary for an enlisted military member be academically inclined. As a result, I was not as studious as my high school peers and my academics suffered as a result. However, before enlisting …show more content…

Also, UML had a beautiful campus, like-minded students, and capable Faculty. I thought it an amazing institution and applied for it, again upon tear-filled request of my mother.
Regrettably, while attending UML, I lacked academic drive. I lacked motivation. I lacked purpose. For I knew I was going to join the military, and I didn’t need a degree to enlist. So, I attended my classes, for no reason other than to pass the time until my enlistment. Semester after semester, my grades degrading, I was less and less focused on my studies. As each day past, I became more impatient, more certain that at the end of this semester I would enlist. Thus, despite the tearful pleas of my mother, I enlisted in the U.S Army in January 2013.
I graduated Basic Combat Training in June of 2013, with the title of honor graduate. Then in November of the same year, I graduated advanced individual training for Health Care Specialist with the title of honor graduate. My sense of pride and fulfillment was the biggest it had ever been. Though unconfirmed by anyone else, some of my old ballcaps stopped fitting. I continued to serve for another 5 years to the best of my abilities, where I pushed my mind and body to be the best soldier I could be, and where I learned many things about
