Person-Centric Care Person-centric care is very necessary in all health care settings. This involves seeing patients and families as equal partners in planning, delivery and evaluation of care, making sure it is most appropriate for patient and family needs. This person-centric care respects and honors patient and family perspectives and beliefs, encouraging and supporting contribution in care and decision making to achieve the best health outcomes. In pediatrics, parents are often the people who know best about their children's health, so it is important they be involved on a regular basis of their children care. In the clinical setting, the nurse needs to focus more on the patient and not the family, but when it comes to children, sometimes it is better to introduce yourself to the parents first. It makes children feel more comfortable when they see their parents interact with persons they do not know first. During this clinical experience, in order to provide the optimal care for the patient I demonstrated compassion, confidence, and readiness to learn. In regards to my patient care, I looked up patient's information in the computer beforehand. I discussed with my patient’s care with my nurse during the nursing shift report and asked my preceptor when I had concerns about the patient. I also discussed my patient’s care with the physician and other health care professionals when I had any further questions about my patient's care. For example, during clinical, when one of my patients had a high fever, I suggested to my nurse that the patient needs motrin for the fever. The nurse ordered this medication for the patient. After the patient received the medication, the patient felt better and was able to
