American memoirist and civil rights activist, Maya Angelou educates the value of perseverance when asked about how people in the world live with assimilating others' culture. Perseverance is striving against all odds to reach personal aspiration. In Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun, the Younger family faces a conflict that threatens their relationship among each other. Dreams deferred affects the mental stability of a person which causes negative impacts to the family's living situation, though with trust and communication the relationships prevail. Prolonged dreams influence a well-balanced state of mind. The introduction of character conflicts demonstrates the development of the dilemma. Walter's dissatisfaction of their living situation pushes him towards alcohol for relief which causes the conflict between him and Mama. Mama notices the changes and confronts Walter, pointing out how he is “kind of wild in the eyes.” (72) Comparing before the changes the description portrays how Walter's eyes are unpleasant to look onto. Thoughts of risks becomes nonexistent. With Walter's mental state unstable and clouded with alcohol, the opportunity to attain a deal was obtained by his friends. The uncertainties of trusting someone a child would not trust “with his most worn-out marbles” (132) were forgotten as Walter's priority is determined. The careless decision leads to the loss of money and severed the relationships. The whole family suffers from the consequence, for instance, Mama's dream of a new home and presenting Travis his own room is gradually disintegrating. Furthermore, Beneatha states that people “took the future right out of my hands” (134) indicating the fault.
