"Perseus was one of the greatest and oldest pan- Hellenic heroes of Greek Mythology." These are the words of Mark Cartwright, Greek philosophy major, in the first paragraph of his article, "Perseus." Many actually believe this to be true. In fact, Perseus was the Great-Grandfather of the ever better known hero, Hercules. Being the son of the great God Zeus, Perseus was a very influential and powerful hero. And due to many trials and threats in his life, he faced many challenges. While on this trip, he faced the evil Gorgon Medusa, as well as the sea monster, Ketos, along with many other challenges. In the end, he reaches his final goal. This proves that Perseus was a truly courageous and empowering hero.

The challenge was nearly impossible. As a result, he seeked out the council Hermes, god of travelers, and Athena, goddess of wisdom. They granted Perseus some facilitative information. When the told him to seek the advice of the three Graiai, he set out to find them. He was told to find them because they were very wise, and they were the sisters of the Gorgons. The Graiai all shared one eye, and one tooth. Perseus wanted to know where he could find Hades' cap of invisibility was, in order to help him with his mission of slaying Medusa. In order to get this information, he stole the one eye that the three Gorgons shared, which they valued more than any other possession they had. This forced them to give Pereus the information that he wanted. With this, he set of to find Medusa. Using the flying sandals which Hermes had given him, he flew to the ends of the Earth, searching for Medusa. Using the invisibility cap, he easily beheaded Medusa, without her even noticing. The other two Gorgons chased after him, but he received aid from Athena, and escaped. Now in possession of his prize, Perseus headed home to Seriphos.
