The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Fitting in is one of the many things people worry about in life. We feel like we’re the only ones going through these things. It’s nice to know sometimes that we aren’t alone and I have just the movie to make people feel like they aren’t the only ones going through loneliness or the different challenges faced throughout life. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is an excellent movie that covers some of the struggles that teenagers face today. Stephen Chbosky, the writer and director, showcases depression, anxiety, homosexuality, substance abuse, and sexual abuse in the film. Each song is able to grasp onto the viewers’ emotions and really engages the viewers. The song that Sam claims is perfect for the tunnel, “Heroes” by David Bowie, relates to Sam and Charlie’s relationship: “I, I will be king and you will be queen.” While it is playing, Charlie is looking at Sam, as she stands in the back of the truck, with pure awe. The song that plays during the dance, “Come on Eileen” by Dexy’s Midnight Runners, brings Charlie to Sam and Patrick and gets him out of his shell. It also reminds Charlie of how important his friends have become to him: “At this moment, you mean everything” It brings Charlie dancing their way, awkwardly. At that moment, Charlie was happy again and felt like he found his place in the world.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a must watch movie that touches on the struggles teens face today such as depression, anxiety, homosexuality, substance abuse, and sexual abuse. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is able to engross the viewers’ attention throughout the movie through its astonishing selection of actors, characters, and the soundtrack chosen. Although this movie is easy to borrow from someone, Stephen Chbosky made this a movie that you will want watch again and again, so add it to your shopping
