Living with a condition that affects nearly everything you do, autism makes it hard for

people to function. Autism is a genetic disorder that has a massive impact on one's life. For

people with autism it can be difficult to express their feelings to others, as well as showing

emotion or fear. Autism contains a variety of symptoms, both autism and autism spectrum are

terms of complex disorders of the brain.

No one will ever experience the same exact type of autism as another individual. When

someone has autism, poor behavioral symptoms include lack of eye contact, inappropriate

social interactions, self­harm, repetition of words and actions, etc. People with autism may also

Although it may be a cause research found

that “approximately 5% of autism cases could be linked to inherited, recessive mutations that

completely disrupt gene function” (Medical and Population Genetics program) People with

autism can be diagnosed as early as pregnancy although they are usually given the term

“autistic” around their earlier ages (2­4). People can develop the genetic disorder later on in life

as well.

There are many ways someone can receive autism, including missing or an additional

amount of genes. Autism is a developmental disability, which is found in the brain. Due to

autism being different in every case with whoever may have it, there is no specific place in the

brain where it is found. Research shows that, “The brain of a child with autism has an abnormal

corpus callosum, amygdala and cerebellum” (Stephanie Watson) The corpus callosum is a

fragment of the mind that allows contact between the two hemispheres. Amygdala is a critical

essential to your capability to feel certain emotions. “At the back of the brain, near the

brainstem, lies the cerebellum, which is responsible for maintaining balance and posture
