Some may say that the job of a physical therapist is easy, I say they are wrong. While the job may look appealing, as portrayed in several movies today, I believe being a physical therapist requires much more than me just exercising people’s muscles to restore the function. As a physical therapist I am friend and a doctor, I am there to encourage and be firm, I am there to laugh with my patients in the pleasant times and talk in the distressing times. Physical therapists are heroes in a way, without them children might not have the hope of walking again after a car accident, the elderly might not be able to find relief from their severe arthritis, and soldiers might not have the hope of recovering from their injuries after being wounded in war. Every day in my career as a pediatric physical therapist I try to impact my patients in a life changing way. I conduct the interviews in an office at the clinic, where the crisp, white walls and sparkling floor in the office creates a comfortable, yet business-like, feel for my patients. During the interviews, I ask my patients questions about their previous medical history, how their injury or condition affects their day to day lives, and what results they expect to see by the end of their treatment. Next, I perform a series of tests to access the patient’s range of motion and muscle strength, before I address any other concerns the patient may have, and close out our session. After completing any interviews scheduled for the day, I create a detailed plan for each patient’s treatment and input and file the plan in the computer system to use later when the patient starts their
