Passion and perseverance can overcome the ability to learn quickly and easily. Duckworth believes success does not only depend on IQ scores, but that passion and determination are significant predictors in successful people. Her studies have shown that people, including children who have these traits have overcome obstacles that they didn’t think they could. I agree with Duckworth on this topic. Growth mindset can overcome all odds. Being talented doesn’t go hand in hand with being gritty. The perseverance in high school juniors in the Chicago Public Schools. Duckworth states, “In fact, in our data, grit is usually unrelated or even inversely related to measures of talent.” In other words, Duckworth believes being talented has nothing to do with stamina and endurance. Talented individuals tend to not have the commitment because they feel they already know that, or that’s easy I’ll accomplish it in no time. So they put no effort into certain tasks. You may not know how to do something, but if you continue to work at it you will eventually learn how to do it. However if you are not committed or have passion in what you are working towards you may lose interest. This supports my opinion because having a talent for something does not mean you have the endurance to accomplish it. “Turns out the grittier kids were significantly more likely to graduate.” Duckworth stated. With this Duckworth is stating that juniors with stamina were able more likely to graduate due to their determination. They worked hard to obtain their final goal. They did not let things like social status, financial income, or surrounding situations impede them from succeeding. They were able to accomplish what some juniors with high IQ scores weren’t able to. This supports my opinion because having determination and endurance to obtain something can give you the ability to overcome all odds. Personally for me high school was very challenging, because it was all about fitting in with the right crowd. I did not see beyond that and for that reason I made many mistakes that hinder my ability to learn. If I would have been grittier, I would have not let my surrounding situations impede on me achieving my high school
