Two of the most recognised and appreciated jobs in the medical field are Paramedics
and RNs, they are both very similar and very different in what they do. The similarities began
when they are helping people, they end when it comes to how they help people and how they
get there. They both are very underrated jobs in the medical field, not getting that well of a pay.
With a drastic schooling differences between the both occupations.
RN’s, or Registered Nurses, are one of the most important jobs in the medical field.
They are responsible for taking care of patients, administering medicine, and other basic
medical duties. They are pay 67,000 yearly to begin, which is more than paramedics. RN’s
schooling is also longer than paramedics.
The nature of the work is very similar for the C.N.A. and L.P.N. A C.N.A. work includes performing routine tasks under the supervision of nursing staff. They answer call bells, deliver messages, serve meals, make beds, and help patients eat, dress, and bathe. Aides also provide skin care to patients, take pulse, temperature, respiration, and blood pressure and help patients get in and out of bed and walk. They also escort patients to operating rooms, exam rooms, keep patient rooms neat, set up equipment, or store and move supplies. Aides observe patient’s physical, mental, and emotional condition and report any change to the R.N. Likewise the L.P.N. provides basic bedside care. They take vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, restorations, and pulse. They also treat bedsores, prepare and give injections and enemas, apply dressings, apply ice packs and insert catheters. L.P.N.’s observe patients and report adverse reactions to medications or treatments to the R.N. or the doctor. They help patients with bathing, dressing, and personal hygiene, and care for their emotional needs.

These two professions consist of nurses and medical assistants, or other wise known as M.A’s. Each of these professions have their own descriptions and skill sets. These two professions also have differences in salary and qualifications needed to work within that pacific field. Even though these two professions are in the same field, they have many similarities and differences.
Current literature continues to reiterate the indicators of a major shortage of registered nurses (RNs) in the United States. The total RN population has been increasing since 1980, which means that we have more RNs in this country than ever before (Nursing Shortage). Even though the RN population is increasing, it is growing at a much slower rate then when compared to the rate of growth of the U.S. population (Nursing Shortage). We are seeing less skilled nurses “at a time of an increasingly aging population with complex care needs and an increasingly complex technological care environment” (Mion). According to recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Department of Health and Human Services, it is estimated that “more than a million new and replacement nurses will be needed over the next decade” (Diagnosis: Critical).
There is a shortage of all health care professions throughout the United States. One shortage in particular that society should be very concerned about is the shortage of Registered Nurses. Registered Nurses make up the single largest healthcare profession in the United States. You need to learn to multi-task or already be good at multi-tasking which means you need to be able to find patient charts, communicate well with the RN’s and physicians, and be able to assist the patients when necessary. You will also need to be able to answer phones and deal with patients and families. This can all be pretty stressful at times but anything can be stressful. In bigger cities such as Illinois in can be upwards of 90,000 dollars. Becoming a paramedic is a very large field that has a very large demand for jobs. The 10 year growth of this job is a lot faster than average. The annual opening for this job is very high, paramedics and trauma nurses are in much higher demand now because of the advanced set of skills and training that they posses. Because of this, it makes the journey to becoming a paramedic and the success of achieving it is a lot more satisfying.

The reported decrease in job availability and rejected admissions has left many individuals to question if the nursing shortage still exists. On the other hand, some experts project that the United States will be short more than one million RNs by 2020 (Dolan, 2011). Although some parts of the country are in less of a demand than others, it is undeniable that there is a national shortage of RNs.
Nursing has always been a key career in the health care system. Although it is not often focused on media and stories surrounding health care, nursing is a career of great importance. If any patient was asked about their experience at a hospital or a care center, many would mention the capability and care that they received from the nurses. The health care system could not function efficiently, if at all, if nurses were not present to perform their part. Nurses are more than just physicians, support staff.
During the spring of 2013, the Boston Marathon was bombed. Hundreds of people had their bodies mutilated . Victims were rushed into the ER like it was hell on Earth so they could get their arms and legs amputated. Surgeries went on and on for the whole day and if it wasn't for those nurses, doctors and surgeons many people would of died that day. Becoming a citizen whose profession is in the medical department is what i dream and desire to do for a career. The two occupations that offer these opportunities are a Surgical Nurse(RD) and a Sports Doctor. Even though i'm only fourteen, I know these two careers will bring me such joy and satisfaction. I look forward to becoming one of these two inspirational occupations. I've researched both careers and I have learned they have similarities but they also have dramatic differences. While both a Surgical Nurse and a Sports Doctor relate because of being in the medical department, they differ in ways like the salaries and the education standards.
