Umbrella: In everyone's life, there are times when tragic and, hurtful situations happen. This could be anything from a close friend or relative dying to failing a test. People react to these events in several ways. Some run right to their friends wanting them to make them feel better while others push their friends away. In both of these situations, the way that we are met when we share what happened is crucial. The difference in being met with sympathy or empathy can be exceedingly important. They could have came from a different backgrounds, have different views, or work through life's obstacles another ways. When there are numerous things that are unique to what they're going through, I must dig deeper to be able to feel the same sorrow and pain as they are. Usually, if there is something that is in common I can relate and empathize easily. This though is actually not good in the long scheme of things because when it is easy to relate there isn’t as much of a heartfelt feeling. The required work to understand and feel what the person is going through is less but usually I can better understand what they feel. When a person sympathizes with another they aren't having to pull a feeling that they had and felt but simply talking to them wishing them the best and hoping that it helps.
