Pacific Northwest is not only a region in northwest America but also my second home. Pacific Northwest includes: part of Alaska, most of British Columbia, Canada, Washington State, Oregon State, Idaho State, and part of northern California. From the view of climate, most of area of Pacific Northwest has oceanic climate. In oceanic climate, the temperature in summer season is cool, and the temperature in winter season is cold, but not too cold. Also, there is much precipitation during winter season, whereas there is less precipitation during summer season. In Seattle (WA), Portland (OR), and Vancouver (BC), we have a rainy season from mid-October to mid-April. In contrast, it is not so hot, but dry and less humid during summer. Most of immigrants come from Asian countries such as China, South Korea, Philippines, etc. Therefore, we see many Asian people in Seattle, Portland, etc. When I came to Seattle and went to a community college, I saw many Asian-American students. I lived in Seattle as homestay, and my host family was Pilipino-American. Pacific Northwest also relates to Japanese people. In the beginning of 20th century, many Japanese people came to Pacific Northwest region as immigrants to get good life. Although there were conflicts and discriminations for Japanese immigrants and Japanese-Americans, they have had their communities and contributed American society. Nowadays, many Japanese people come to Seattle, Vancouver, and Portland as sightseeing, international student, business, etc. Actually, many Japanese international students came to university such as University of Washington, Portland State University, and other universities/colleges in Pacific Northwest. Many Japanese companies also advance to Pacific Northwest region. Before I came to the United States, I was afraid of homesick because I thought that there were less Japanese people. However, when I lived in Seattle, I saw many Japanese people in community college, and Japanese restaurants that are owned by Japanese in downtown.
