Some of the obstacles would be how some people will say that I won't make it or how I can't-do it. Another is how I will manage time for both job and school. Another is if I won't be able to finish it on time and I will need to have a lot of money. If I wanted to change my path then I would think about it first and do some pros and cons about it then go with what I think. I would want to keep visiting my family and supporting them for everything they have done for me. If I had to choose a place where I would study then it would have to be in North Carolina. I have lived there for quite some time and I really enjoy the place, and I would be ok with the money I hope with the part-time job I'm working on. For education, I wouldn't worry too much
If you enter the field that you like and go to the right college at the right place and after college you try your best to find the dream job that you have been thinking about in your entire life and really work to achieve your dream, nothing can stop you. Deciding to go to college was not a hard decision to make. And I’m planning on just doing the bachelor degree and then finding a job after that. I will not have to pay back a lot of debt because I am not going to take any loans in my 4 years in college.
A personal change I would like to make is my approach and the response I display to my teammates and the organization. I am a very independent person at work, I tend to be a controlling person in every aspect. However, I am trying to overcome this debilitating trait by learning new techniques and reflecting on the other person’s ideas, comments, efforts and suggestions without taking control. I do complete my task with little or no assistance, but it causes me to be detached, indifferent, and uninvolved from my teammates causing conflicting issues. I do sense a distance between myself and my teammates, but I continue to work hard and remain focus.
As I grew up throughout my childhood I accepted the word “no” from my parents with blatant frustration. I grew up in a well off home and never had to worry about where I will spend the night or if I will be able to eat that night, I used to never be as thankful as I should have for those reasons. Thoughts constantly ran rampant through my head of, “Mommy and daddy have so much money why can’t I have this!” I never grasped the fact of if my parents could provide me with a certain luxury that I did not need but wanted, why they did not. As a child I saw all the kids around me with many luxuries I desired but could not have as my parents refused, although I was completely unaware of their own financial status as a kid I could only look at everyone
I have everything I could ever want or need, I am a very strong Christian, I am a wife and a mom of three children, I have an awesome job of being a doula, My husband manages a bank, my kids have wonderful schools to go to, we’ve never been in debt. It’s hard to believe given that I come from a long line of drug addicts and con artists. My parents had abused and neglected me. When I was ten years old I packed up my belongings in a small suitcase and ran away to the deep dark woods of Colorado. When I got to the woods I found an old abandoned cabin with two bedrooms, one bathroom, a small kitchen, a small living room and a little bathroom. The cabin was brown, it only had two windows in the entire cabin, and it was ancient and tiny. The cabin must have been fifty years old. The wood on the outside of the cabin had termite damage and splinters all over the place, but at that age I didn’t care. I just needed a place to live. I would eat whatever I could find that was edible, such as nonpoisonous berries, birds, fish, and certain kinds of leaves. I remember feeling so lonely in that cabin, but I had no other place to go besides the foster system. I felt that I was too old no one wants to adopt a ten year old. One day something happened that changed my life forever. I found two girls coming towards the cabin the older girl had blonde hair and green eyes, was bone skinny and was very dirty. She was carrying a little girl with black curly hair and blue eyes. She was dirty and bone skinny as well. The older girl’s name was Samantha, She was six years old. The younger girl’s name was Kate and she was one year old and she had Down syndrome. Both girls where covered in bruises. I said to Samantha “what are you doing here?” She replied “Are ...
In life, people will always have something to say about you in everything one does in life, either negative or positive, but it’s the moment when you let what is said upon you affect the way you live your life, that when its becomes a problem. I for myself have been victim of so many people saying things about me and letting get into my head, but I had the courage to overcome a lot of obstacles like that. I have struggled with a lot of obstacles in my life some got the better of me while I have been able to overcome most of them. I am writing this essay to give an example of an obstacle which I struggled with for a very long time and I nearly took the best of me, but with time I was able to overcome it.
In life, everyone seems to face unwanted obstacles. These obstacles are the cause of all the twists and turns people experience. Like most challenges in life, mine came unexpected and would change both myself and my life in ways I couldn’t imagine. At my former University, I was part of the cheerleading team, this allowed me to develop friendships with certain football players. One night my best friend and I decided to hang out with one of our friends on the team. Later that night, we all ended up falling asleep. I woke up to him sexually assaulting both my best friend and myself. After this happens, we both were scared and confused on what we should. The next day, in need of major advice I turned to my close friends on the cheerleading team
All of my life I have been taught to give 100 percent on everything I do, no matter how big or how small. I believe that I have demonstrated that throughout high school very efficiently, and I will continue to do it. Hard work has gotten me through many ups and downs in any situation I encounter and I am hoping it will continue to push me through struggles in the rest of my life.
A lot of people search through life trying to find something that means something to them, something life changing. I experienced my life-changing event when I was 3 years old. I was in a terrible car accident. Realistically, being 3, I do not really remember what all happened – I remember a few details though, the feeling, the pain, and my parents reactions. Their reactions were crucial in the development of my realization of this life-changing event. All through my life I grew up with this crazy thing that had happened in the past and all I had were my parents’ recollections on the events that occurred. But, youth is just kind of weird like that – you tend to hear more about what you experienced than actually remembering it. My parents really
Describe the world you come from, your family, community, or school. What life experiences have shaped who you are today and what challenges have you overcome? (i.e. financial, personal, medical, etc.). Describe your academic and career goals, and your plans to achieve them. What has motivated you to pursue a higher education? Explain how the LAEF scholarship will help you. (Tip: What do you want the readers of your application to know about you apart from courses, grades, and test scores?)
When I first enrolled here at State University, I never thought I would ever be in the position to graduate. Finishing college was a huge goal growing up but it was also my biggest fear. But after three and a half years of dedication I plan to get my degree in the fall. Getting this far in college was not easy, it took encouragement from family, dedication, and assistance from others to reach this position.
We all have those days where we feel so hopeless or unable to do anything right. We have all felt that we couldn’t finish school or other life challenges. We question everything about life, that’s what happened with me. I had never had a normal life and now it takes a turn for the worse. I grew up under the circumstances that forced me to become more responsible and mature, which has enabled me to succeed later in life.
If we let our personal challenges destroy us, then we are nothing and have nothing to offer the world. It is important that we take control of our situation and use the personal hardship as an opportunity to better ourselves. It takes a keen eye and careful self-evaluation to remove any inclusions that will mar the beautiful diamond we possess in all of us. Each one of us is shaped into a distinctive cut of stone, giving way to different grades of clarity and color, making us rare, valuable, and uniquely our own. Frederick Douglass and Barbara Ehrenreich are two individuals who lived in different time periods; however, both individuals used their personal struggles to inspire change in the hearts of others. Just as I use my struggle as a tool to chip away the imperfections in my life, Frederick and Barbara used their experiences to chip away the fallacies of our nation. Personal challenges encourage me to grow as an individual and make better choices for a brighter future.
Today was the worst day of my life. My mom gave me good and bad news. The bad news was so horrible. The good news was very surprising. The bad news was so bad, that I started crying. My mom told me that I was MOVING!!!
I remember the day as if it were yesterday; I was sitting in my sixth grade classroom deliberately packing my belongings away in my jam-packed locker. As I reached for my belongings, I endured all of the eventful memories that took place in that school and in my home state. All the friendships that I made would abolish. My friends sobbed as I sobbed. I anticipated this very day for about six months. As all of my belongings were finally packed, I gave my final good-byes and headed out. The mixed emotions trembled through my head. I became exceedingly furious then miserable then furious again. Hatred filled my eyes as we drove farther away. I became bitter with my family and secretly blamed it all on my
There have been very few events throughout my lifetime that I feel have impacted or inspired me with such noteworthiness and that I know will change my outlook on the world and affect me forever. One of those events occurred when I traveled to Portugal, my parent’s homeland. From this excursion in 2007, I learned the importance of family, most importantly the distant kind. It provided me with a totally different perspective on the world and how large and extended one’s family can really be; even across cultures and continents. I felt so fortunate learning this lesson at a young age and growing to appreciate the ideals I was brought up with as a child. The family I have in Portugal has always been there; however, their faces have aged and are blemished with the passing of many years and difficult times. Some newer additions to the family have started to become a part of the modern Portuguese workforce. One of my cousins was studying to become a veterinarian and another was working as a nurse at the local hospital of Montalegre (or “Happy Mountain”).
