BIBLIOLOGY: THE DOCTRINE OF SCRIPTURE
I believe that the Bible is the holy word which was revealed for the purpose that man can know God and His will. Man is spiritual dead and cannot know anything, God has to revealed himself through His word to man (1 Cor. 2:7-11; 2 Peter 1:20-21). The revelation came by supernatural ways which are dreams (Gen. 37:5-9), visions (Gen. 15; Amos 7-9), and direct communication (1 Sam. 3:3-14). The Bible is written revelation, or God’s communication of divine truth to man. The revelation occurs in two forms: general and special. The general revelation is the truths that can be known about God through nature (Ps. 8; 19:1-6). The general revelation cannot bring salvation to man because it only demonstrates the existence of God, but it does not show man way he can be saved (Rom. 2:14-16). Man is without excuse as he suppresses the general revelation of God in his heart, man bears God's wrath and judgment (Rom. 1:18-20). The Bible does not need experimental proofs to make it message right. The Bible claims that it is final authority in all sound doctrine that will help a true believer to be equipped for good works (1 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:3-4). The illumination is God's divine enablement for the believer who receives and comprehends experientially the Scripture through the ministry of the Holy Spirit (Jn. 16:8-15). The Bible is a reflection of its Author and contains no error in the whole or every part (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21). The human author personality and their styles of writings are different from one to another, but they did don’t contradict the center message (2 Peter. 1:20). Truth, scripture and revelation are three concepts that the Bible has been based on. Truth is defined as the way that things are or should be. It can relate to reality or wisdom. Truth can be communicated in a variety of ways. Literally which is facts and figures and can be shown in math and science. Figuratively which is metaphor and simile and can be shown in humanity. Symbolically in fine arts such as art, drama and music and also narratively such as stories, parables and myths. Truth can be known in the head and the heart because it communicates through reason and intuition. Meanwhile, scripture is defined as being written and taken from script. Scripture is a way for religion to permanently preserve its worth of wisdom, ways of worship and to pass traditions on intact for future generations. Finally, revelation means to reveal. It refers to the initiative of God in communicating with humans. Truth, scripture and revelation are all related because they are all forms of communication that allow us to know God’s message. They allow us to see stories and events of how people lived with God in history and set an example of how we should co-exist with God in our world today.

Throughout life, Christians grasp tightly to these words of God in hopes to inherit the Kingdom of God one day. In order to do this, they must study the Bible closely and apply it to their lives daily. Without the proper Bible, this may become a difficult task to accomplish. Although the various translations of the Christian Bible are exceptionally similar in their message, some have quite a few differences and perversions that set them apart from one another. Many of them even leave out several potentially important verses in their revision. These variations contribute to the justification of one translation being more reliable and accurate than the other versions.
Even though humans wrote the text, translating it and passing it down from generations to generations, God’s truth is unchanging. Debates of the inerrancy of the bible cannot usurp God as the King of grace. Instead of focusing on the inerrancy of the Bible, individuals who wish to seek a life of faith should focus on the inspiration God is showing them in his word. These revelations should move them into applicable, daily life changing implications from what they have learned. God shows revelations of himself through the Bible, and his character is revealed time and time again throughout scripture. Any faulty facts or discrepancies in grammar or data, should not take away from the value that scripture holds. When we read scripture we bring new meaning of interpretations of the truths God shows us, since new eras and environmental factors will be influential on how we process information. The New Testament teaches about who Jesus is and what he did on the earth. John wrote the last of the four gospels which recount Jesus’ life and what is to come. The gospel of John is somewhat different from the other three gospels, in that it is more symbolic and less concrete. For example, John expresses Jesus as the Passover Lamb when Matthew, Mark, and Luke do not. This gospel is showing that Christianity is moving away from the long-practiced Jewish traditions. John’s gospel can be laid out into four parts: the prologue or the incarnate word, signs of the Messiah with teachings about life in him, the farewell teaching and the passion narrative, and the epilogue or the roles of Peter and of the disciple whom Jesus loved. The Bible is read and interpreted by many people all over the world. Regardless, no one knows the absolute truth behind scripture. Walter Brueggemann, professor of Old Testament, wrote “Biblical Authority” to help people understand what he describes as six different parts that make up the foundation to ones understanding of scripture. He defines these six features as being: inherency, interpretation, imagination, ideology, inspiration, and importance. As Brueggemann explains each individual part, it is easy to see that they are all interconnected because no one can practice one facet without involuntarily practicing at least one other part.
A worldview, like a roadmap, sets our direction and guides us through life. “Like wind blowing through the trees, it cannot be seen, yet it enlivens and animates. A worldview infuses a community with life and establishes its dynamic. It says, “This is who we are”” (Miller, 2001 p. 40).
Is the Bible true? This is a question I have asked myself as I have navigated my walk with Christ and learned more about my faith. In our world today, there are many different religions and each one professes their book to be the Word of God. The Koran claims to be a “revelation from Allah and seen as the Word of God” (Yohn, 2013). The Book of Mormon is believed to be “divinely inspired by God”, but both of these books contradict the Bible (Yohn, 2013). Spanning fifteen hundred years with over 30,700 manuscripts, extensive archaeological evidence and 2000 prophecies that have been fulfilled, the Bible is God 's word to us. (Yohn, 2013). In the Bible, the Father is essentially giving us a picture of the history of the world and is also leading us to a place where we must make a decision that involves whether we choose to accept his son or reject him and remain guilty. Additionally, the Word of God tells us what happened that caused this breach between us and God, the result of this and how God has rectified it through the blood of his son. In fact, from the beginning of the Bible (written 1400 B.C.) to the last book (A.D. 96), God is showing us why we need Jesus and how to find him. Just as a plant’s root system propagates and occupies the pot that encloses it, Jesus permeates the entire Bible. Therefore, the motif of the Bible is the story of the redemption of mankind and it all points to Jesus as the messiah and savior who secures this for all.
Thus, inspired means God-breathed. All scripture is therefore God-breathed; it is the very life and Word of God. Down to the very words of the original manuscripts, the Bible is without error, absolutely true, trustworthy, and infallible. This is true not only when it speaks of salvation, ethical values, and morality, but it is also without error on all subjects about which it speaks, including history and the cosmos. 2 Peter 1:20-21 states that, “knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
The four gospels are detailed accounts of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Each portrays a unique story and angle of Jesus, who is the savior of the Jews and the world. Apostle Matthew’s writings are to prove to the Jews that Jesus is their Messiah. Mark stressed the humanity of Jesus and also his deity. Luke wanted to show that the gentile Christian in God’s kingdom is based on the teachings of Jesus. John speaks of Jesus as one sent from God to reveal His love and grace to man. The four gospels work together to elaborate on the several key themes; salvation, spreading His word, and the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise.
The Christian Canon was very interesting to read about. Since I do not know too much about religion of any sort it taught me a lot. The term “canon” implies that it is like a rule of thumb or a standard to live by. The Christian Canon is a gathering of inspired scriptures and different religions have different canons. In Christianity the canon is a set of scriptures that are in the Bible and consist of 27 books that are in the New Testament.

Several may ask is the Lord’s Word truly inspired by God through the prophets, and how do we know what is the original truth. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." (NASB) 2 Peter 1:21 goes on to say, "For no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God." (NASB) Therefore; it is extremely critical for the church fathers to establish what documents would become the fundamental message used to institute Christian doctrine. For this reason, the New Testament canon was incorporated to achieve the Lord‘s promise, but how was these twenty-seven books formed? According to Gundry, author of the Survey of the New Testament the Christians did not have books that contained the New Testament for the traditions of Jesus words, deeds and the message from God through the prophets.
