Organic Farming Is The Better Farming
In our world today food is the most important tool for us to continue living in this world, but as our population continues to grow our food supply is going down rapidly at its highest point. The farmers today is finding new ways to sustain the supply of food and new practices are put into use. Inorganic farming are the main practice used by farmers to produce our crops, but now the farmers are using organic farming. Out of the two farming practices, we believe that organic farming is an alternative and better way in farming, preferred by the majority, producing healthier products, more environmental friendly farming methods and overall more beneficial for humans than inorganic farming. In the study that we conducted, students prefer organic farming over inorganic farming. According to our survey, 80% of the students think that organic farming is the best way to farm, 62% of students prefer to buy organic products, 61% agree to organic farming practices and 78% agree that organic farming is beneficial to humans.
The students prefer organic farming because of the following reason. First, organic farming is environment friendly. It improves the general condition of the soil and promotes biodiversity. One of the methods in organic farming is the natural fertilizers where the farmer uses cow manure and chicken dung and other animal manure for fertilizer. Application of organic materials attracts lot of small organisms such as termites, insects, earthworms, bugs, etc. that converts the organic matter into smaller units. Because of these, microorganisms flourish and the interaction of these different organisms improves soil quality and health. Scientific research has demonstrated that organic agriculture significantly increases the density and species of soil’s life. Both farming practices have cons and pros. Example, inorganic farming is convenient if the goal of a farmer is a fast large quantity harvest. Organic farming will improve the soil quality and health but it takes time for it to completely affect your soils quality and texture. In a world that has a continuous growing demand for supply of food, farmers must cope to the drastic change in population where they are pushed to use other methods that can sustain our food supply and still have profit. In this case, organic farming takes too long and it is impractical in the current stand point.
To sustain demand and increase profit farmers are using inorganic farming. Inorganic farming uses commercial fertilizer and pesticides which are detrimental to macro and microbial life in the soil but the use of inorganic farming can cope to the drastic change in our population which is the major concern of all farmers today.
