What makes an ordered society? Although many, many things contribute to this I'm going to discuss three different topics that I find to be the most important in shaping order in a society. The three I find most important are religion, government, and village and family life. These factors contribute greatly to the stability of order. The one I find to be the biggest contributor is religion, which helps shape the way people act and behave. Most religions are very structured and timely and precise and people can be very committed to them, therefor devoting much time to. Government is also a very important contributor, it shows how the people act toward one another, their justice system, the way they view things, etc. Government is not to be taken …show more content…
This contribution also heavily influences the order in a society, this is what the people see as right and wrong, laws to obey, elders to look up to, etc. Government is far from just the people in authority and laws to follow; it’s about socialization, trade, exchange, interactions with other countries, contradiction of what was thought to be right, justice, positions, jobs, skills, and so much more. In the 21st India there was a caste system in which created a “stable social order” (Document D). This system “dictated status and occupation” (Document D) and was not equal to all people but to only some of which are part of a higher class and social rank. There are many disadvantage for the ones who are on the lower end of the rank like less nutrition accessibility, lower education, and fewer relations or contacts to essential “social institutions” (Document D). This system of India is part of their government. It shows what they are like and how they want things to be and go according to. Their government is influencing their order by making things go a certain way. This government is making it where there are advantages for the high classes and not very many for the lower class. Making it almost impossible for someone to get themselves out of the lower class and move up into the higher class. There was also a system in Aryan society like this one but very different. This system also had …show more content…
This factor like the others is also of huge impact. This when it comes down to it is what really impacts the order in a society the most heavily. This outweighs the others who cannot be compared to family/village life. Family and village life is someone’s home life parents, spouse, children, siblings, outer family, friends, neighbors, etc. which is what holds everything together in a society. Family is the tie to order in society it keeps the families together which keeps neighbors together which keeps villages together which keeps everybody together. The discipline in a family creates rules, customs, and traditions which brings order. Confucius had taught of things on family and discipline and different relationships and their meaning. He taught on five relationships “unequal, except for friendships” (Document A). which was “a subject to his ruler, a child to his parents, a wife to her husband, and younger brothers to elder brothers”. He thought very highly of these relationships and that by people accepting their roles would live in peace and be doing their responsibility. By families following this teaching and others by Confucius they have order. They are following rules and customs and do it on a daily basis and try their best to live by it which has them doing things each day, things go accordingly which is
Thousands of years ago, Indian society developed into a complex system based on different classes. This system is known as the Caste System. It separated Indians into different castes based on what class they were born into. As thousands of years went by, this system grew larger and became further complex (Wadley 189). This system caused frustration for the Indian citizens because they were receiving inequality.
This example of making social order continues to be challenged throughout our lives when these basic rules are forgotten and when people are reminded of them, social order is remade and without social order, everyday lives will become volatile, unpredictable and dangerous.
To begin, Confucianism is a system of philosophical and ethical teachings founded by Confucius. Confucianism was the code of ethics accepted as the certified religion of most of the immense empires in the territory since the Han Dynasty. Confucianism provided an outline of ethical and religious beliefs that most of the Chinese expanded to make other religions such as Daoism and Legalism. To expand, Confucianism was founded by Confucius and his beliefs on the political and social order of China. Confucius believed that everything would fall into place if children had respect for their parents and if the rulers were honest. In Confucianism, specific roles were followed by each person in the family. The head of the family, the father, was the one primarily in control and then it was the oldest son that was next in line. Confucius had the belief that a ruler has to be everything he wants
The relationship between ruler and subject is that the ruler must work to protect and govern, while subjects must provide their ruler with loyalty. The father is responsible for caring for his son and providing him an education, while the son must show his father obedience and honor. In the husband and wife relationship, the husband is to provide for his wife, while the wife shows obedience and takes care of the home. The older brother has the responsibility to take care of his younger brother and look after him, while the younger brother must show obedience. Lastly, the relationship between elder and younger places the elder with the responsibility of taking care of the younger. The younger must then show respect and obedience toward the elder. In the even that the elder is unable to care for themselves, as in the case of aging parents, it is the younger’s responsibility to care for the elder. The idea is that when each person is doing their duty in each relationship, society will run much more smoothly and harmoniously. While Confucianism focuses on social aspects, it does not consider the

Dictionary.com defines a caste system as “a system of rigid social stratification characterized by hereditary status, endogamy, and social barriers sanctioned by custom, law, or religion” This means someone born into a low caste cannot move up to a higher caste because of this system. Although a caste system is not a set of laws, it is almost never broken because the caste system has been in place for so long.
Initially, the Caste System is used by the World State to control its citizens with the Epsilon - Minus Semi - Moron in the elevator. He has a voice coming out of a speaker to tell him what to do even though the only thing he does is go up and down the building. Instead of doing this simple job that anyone can do themselves he could be something way more helpful. Since this is a Epsilon, since they are usually dumb, he doesn't care what job he gets. Furthermore, the World State used the Caste System to control its citizen when having the Alphas and Betas do the jobs that require intelligence. Since the lower castes are affected by the way they were developed in the tubes so they are dumber than the higher castes, the Alphas and Betas are the ones who do the more important jobs. These are the people that help the economy move forward more. They work in a clean environment and they live wealthy. They look down at the lower castes enjoying not being them while living this glorious lifestyle while these lower castes don’t know any different that what they have which is almost nothing good. In conclusion, the Caste System is a method that the World State used to control its citizens when Lenina and Henry are sat down talking about the Epsilons. Lenina and Henry are taking a helicopter ride and they fly over the crematory. They start talking about Epsilons and how they are
The Indian government is corrupted and makes promises it is unable to keep. In The White Tiger, Balram describes that the government is “...the world’s greatest democracy. What a fucking joke.” (Adiga 145). When Balram lived in Laxmangarh his right to vote for the prime minister was taken from him, due to the fact that running candidates pay the current government to make sure they are elected. The government system also enables the rich to get richer. They do this by immensely taxing the poor and enforcing the caste system on the poor. The caste system is a labeling system you were born into and of what you are expected of in life. For example Balram had the caste of Halwai, which is derived from “sweet-maker”. This meant Balram was expected to work...
We are lucky, today, that the majority of the world’s nations are democracies. This has only been the case in very recent times. For the greater part of human history, society has subscribed to the belief that birth is the most important determinant of one’s future. In Elizabethan England, this was especially true. Those born into the nobility enjoyed a lifetime of privilege, while those born outside of their ranks mainly existed to serve them. A century later, the British encountered an even stricter form of this belief when they conquered India. The Hindu caste system, which dictated one’s future based on birth just as British society did, was deemed even by the English to be excessively restrictive. After gaining control of the Subcontinent, the conquerors attempted to supplant the caste system with the semblance of a meritocracy. The new subjects of the Empire, instead of embracing this imposition of a foreign culture’s values, responded with general unrest and discontent, showing that no society, no matter how unfair or prejudiced, tolerates interference well. Shakespeare’s King Lear demonstrates the same concept: that any violation of society’s conception of the natural order brings chaos, and that the only way to restore harmony is to conform to the expectations of that society.
In the category of view of society, each belief has a different view. The Confucians believed that you develop good character through a good life and that everyone has their own role.
Confucianism is a moral and religious system of China. Its origins go back to the Analects, the sayings attributed to Confucius, and to ancient writings, including that of Mencius. Confucius was born a mandarin under the name Kongzi. It was developed around 550 B.C. In its earliest form Confucianism was primarily a system of ethical concepts for the control of society. It saw man as a social creature that is bound to his fellow men by jen, or “humanity.” Jen is expressed through the five relationships—sovereign and subject, parent and child, elder and younger brother, husband and wife, and friend and friend. Of these, the filial relation is most important.
Many believe that order should be applied by the government; though it should be allowed to a certain limit and should not interfere in a citizen’s personal life. However others believe that full freedom should be given to individuals and that nothing should be enforced as it brings along many differences between citizens. This essay will attempt to study and answer the long awaited question; which of the two are more beneficial for the society.
Confucius then was presented with another question, how does one choose between natural law and social law? He answered by saying the situation should be avoided at all costs, but if forced he would advise following natural law. The conflict between the two can be avoided through self-cultivation and education. Self-cultivation prevents oneself from forcing the situation onto family members. Education for oneself and for one’s family prevents them from breaking social law. Family is the most important thing in graded
“ Yet I believe that we are in great danger of being converted into complete organization men, and that means, eventually, into political totalitarianism, unless we regain the the capacity to be disobedient and to learn how to doubt.” (The Individual, 333). The world is slowly working towards full control, with obeying every rule presented to us, we are allowing them to follow through with that plan. If we started disobeying how society is asking us to live, we will learn more about what the world is offering. If we allow ourselves to be controlled, The Caste system could come back into place, and instead of advancing in our society, we would backtracking. We would be placed back into classes so we are not offered the same as some of the upper classes. This would easily destroy the human race and cause far more damage than
The current manifestations of the caste system are now far more generalized across the Indian subcontinent than was the case in former times. Caste as we now recognize has been endangered, shaped and perpetuated by comparatively recent political and social developments. This is evident even i...
