The Ellen DeGeneres Show The Ellen DeGeneres show has grown to become the most-viewed daytime television show in United State. Now in the 14th season, the Ellen has aired 2200 episodes since it debuted on the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) in May of 2003. The show is hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, a former stand-up comedian, and actress, who combines humor, games, and interviews to entertain her viewers. Just like the Oprah Winfrey show, the show promotes kindness by focusing on acts of kindness from all over the world, this has made the Ellen show grow to the level of Oprah show in just a decade since its launch (Cromwell, 2012). This has made the channel reach more people than what the Oprah show was able to reach. The show is also aired in Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia. In 2013 it was rated the third most viewed talk show with 3.9 million views per episode. The show has won 29 Grammy awards and 20 people’s choice awards which make it the most awarded show in American media history and surpassing Oprah show’s record (Bio Newsletter, 2017). Even though the Ellen show and the Oprah shows could not be fairly compared in terms of achievements, the Ellen show has had more viewership and publicity due to improved technology and increased globalization. The show is a befitting heir to the Oprah show, therefore being aired on the 10 NBC stations will propel the show further and reach more audience. It would be unfair to dismiss the prominence of Live Kelly and Ryan on the American talk show industry. This show together with the Ellen and Oprah shows have reached a level of equal recognition for their accomplishment. The success of the Ellen show, however, rises the eyebrows because it has come first, despite setbacks such as being host by a host who received public backlash for being lesbian, and yet succeeding in her show (Reed, 2005). The evolution of the show has seen it incorporate segments that could air alone as independent shows. An example of this segment is a kids sections called Brielle-iant, games and scripted television programs such as six fits under and Joey.
