Operation Shoebox is an organization that sends care packages, and goods to our troops who are deployed. I chose this organization because I felt a connection with it since I have an older brother in the Coast Guard who I adore and look up to. When he was deployed in Cuba my family always sent him care packages so he could always have a little piece of home. When I heard about this organization I immediately wanted to find out how I could help. Once I read about the many ways I could contribute I decided to choose the care package option. Through a community service club I am in I received help in gathering together goods for the boxes. In the boxes included items they need or would enjoy while deployed such as: hygiene care, toiletries, pre-packaged snacks, books, magazines, or anything that could bring a little light into their day. Through Anchor Club I was able to gather these items and package them up and send them to …show more content…
Since I come from a small town and live close to the Eglin Air force Base, where many men and women are stationed. It really hits close to home, and it makes others want to help out in any way they can. We appreciate these people and want to give back as much as we can. Operation shoebox has given me an outlet to help the people I am passionate about. I love the military and I have the utmost respect for them. This community service project has brought such a light to my eyes because the things they ask for are things we take for granted far too often, it can be as little as a bar of soap or hygiene products that they appreciate so much. It opened my eyes to how thankful we should be of our troops, and how they sacrifice so much for us. Overall I am thankful that through this project I may be able to bring a little bit of joy to those who are working so hard, and I hope to continue working with this
Thesis: In our generation we are hearing many stories of returning wounded veterans that feel like they cannot do the things they once have and need a sense of purpose to get back on their feet; an organization needs to help these young men and women hero’s to live a sustainable and a fulfilling life.
The moment I visited the veterans seems frozen in time. Tears stream down my face as I listen to the stories. My heart pounds as I think about how they must have felt.Thank you to all veterans for teaching me about my responsibility to America’s future and putting America on the path to
Every day of my life I have woken up to the sound of Reveille, and gone to bed listening to Taps. I have moved nine different times, know the feeling of having my dad deploy more than four times, and eating Thanksgiving dinner in a DEFAC is second-nature to me. Being an army child is a huge part of my life, however it does not define who I am; it has shaped how I view the world. Because of my life as a military child, I have determined that I am compelled to positively influence how others view life.
Considering that the military’s logistical structure hasn’t had a major improvement in over 60 years, the idea of streamlining and consolidating systems would be a welcome and much needed change. I currently work in the ammunition field for the U.S. Army and have done so for the past 18 years. The changes that the Marines are beginning to implement will help to free up resources and cut funds that could be used for other projects.
Another solution is Nonprofit organizations. Nonprofit organizations can offer all kinds of services and programs, like Salvation Army. They offer a rehabilitation center and temporary shelters for the veterans and their families. The rehabilitation centers help veterans with their addictions, PTSD, physical abuse, and psychological issues. Another is the American Red Cross they offer necessities such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, liquid soap, deodorant razors, and shaving cream. The basic necessities are only offered in a few locations right now but Red Cross plans to expand all over the United
To illustrate, in 2005 mercy corps contributed inimproving the Hurricane Katrina catastrophe by re-using building materials, supplying tools to dismantle the ruined houses, and working with the families that were impacted by the disasters and have currently been working in helping more than 30 countries build secure communities to restore what was destroyed. In relation, “On average, over 22 million people have been displaced each year since 2008 because of climate or weather-related disasters” (Gillian B. White) which is why mercy corps is set on guiding people to survive through catastrophes, build better lives and communities. I’ve mainly selected mercy corps because it offers orientation to become aware of what mercy corps is and to acknowledge the variety of options on whom would like to volunteer such as community fundraising, action center and administrative support. Action Center lets volunteers take part in seminars and lectures that inform them about the crisis happening around the world and the improvements mercy corps has done for

The Home Depot Supply Chain Management model is based on integrated inventory management through a centralized network of 20 distribution centers, called Rapid Deployment Centers (RDCs) and three Direct Fulfillment Centers (DFCs) aimed at the e-commerce market (Bond, 2015). Direct Fulfillment Centers are e-commerce distribution systems. Home Depot delivers within a two-day timeframe to 90% of US based customers, and the system also leverages in store stock for same day pick-up (Bond,
This is one of the purest organizations that provide help and assistance for veterans that there is. It was the wives of military veterans started Hope for the Warriors in 2006. While the focus of the charity is to help improve the quality of life for soldiers’ post-9/11, their efforts provide needed assistance for thousands of disadvantaged veterans.
One way you could give back to veterans is visiting sick or injured veterans in a V.A. Hospital. A V.A. hospital is filled with veterans who have served. The hospitals provide
Well, I have served my community every day on Thanksgiving for about 20 hours. Since 2012-2016, I have been helping out a community called Thanksgiving Community Dinner which it's a community that donates food to anyone who wants Thanksgiving meals. Well basically, I been volunteering out on serving food, waitering for people, washing dishes, and delivering food for them on the go. Every year during the morning of the community service, I always learn something new at that community which was really fun. For me to be able to helped people make me feel better about myself and to that community.
We chose to donate because there are so many families who don’t have items that are necessary for good hygiene, like toothbrushes and soap. People take things for granted like throwing away old clothes or not wearing a pair of shoes because they don’t like them. These are simple things that would be really valuable to someone else and I think sad that we don’t realize that. The most impactful thing to me is that the number of homeless elderly people is on the rise. The number of homeless people 60 or older jumped 30% from 856 people in 2007 to 1103 in 2015. I think it is really sad to imagine an elderly person spending their golden years living and struggling on the street. Something I want to learn is if there if any businesses that are
Sustainability of the supply chain has increasingly become a crucial aspect of corporate responsibility. Apart from being good for business, management of social, economic, and environmental effects of supply chain remains the right thing to do. Constantly changing markets have created complex landscapes that businesses must navigate to build sustainable supply chains. Sustainable supply chains aim at creating social, economic, and environmental value for all stakeholders throughout the supply chain. Building sustainable supply chains not only benefits the stakeholders but also aims at safeguarding business interests. Businesses can easily become sustainable by understanding who they are and working closely with people. Nestle is company that has been at the forefront in advocating for sustainable supply through the ‘creating shared value’ platform. The report makes recommendation on the role of supply chain management in attaining sustainability.
Booker T. Washington once said, “ If you want to lift yourself up, lift someone else up”. This quote is meant to stress the importance of volunteering and how it not only benefits the people in need but also the volunteers. Volunteering is an essential aspect of society because it teaches responsibility, humbleness , and helps save money. A wide range of people use volunteer services including senior citizens and disabled veterans. The Salvation Army is the world’s second largest nonprofit organization. The Salvation Army gets the majority of its funds by donations and from stores that are maintained by volunteers and the people that they assist. The stores use donated goods as their merchandise. Every cent that is made by the Salvation Army
