In “To Kill a Mockingbird,” by Harper Lee, Scout and Jem believed that everyone in the world is equal to each other and skin color should not matter. However, as seen in the book, this innocence is soon taken away from them all too quickly as they begin to discover the world they live in is not as perfect as they imagined, but instead some people have hatred and intolerance.
