On Thursday, February 26, 2015 the music department of Oklahoma State University hosted a small concert series at 12:00 pm at the Edmund low library. There were many pieces composed by various composers and were performed by numerous people and ensemble at the concert such as OSU student Emma Jones, musicians Mikray Hasan, Charbel Yubaile, professors Sun Min Kim and Heather Lanners and the OSU trumpet ensemble. The program included Bruyères (Heather) from preludes, Book 2, Nocturne in b-flat minor, Op. 9, No. 1, Palmier d’étoiles (Star palm), L’ Egyptienne (The Egyptian), Jeux d’enfants (children’s games), Tuba Mirum Fanfare, Ava Maria, A Hoffnung Fanfare, First Essay, Op. 12, and Toccata and Fugue in d minor. Due to the many performances, my interest peeked only in some of the pieces magnificently played. I personally think this was my favorite performance out of the whole concert. The performers did multiple pieces from composer Georges Bizet’s La Poupée (The doll): Berceuse (lullaby), La Toupie (the top): Impromptu, petit mari, petit femme! (Playing house): Duo, and Les Chevaux de bois (the merry go round): Scherzo. The movements of all the pieces were so graceful and varied from slow to fast and they were so beautifully played. It sounded so peaceful you can fall asleep to it!
After all the piano pieces the trumpet ensemble came up and performed several pieces. The first performance they did was probably my favorite as a group. The Tuba Mirum Fanfare by Giuseppe Verdi was exceptional. I believe Verdi was a genius in creating this piece. The flow of notes and the steady movement was outstanding. The dynamics were superb on how they controlled it. At one point it would be soft, then the next moment the ensemble gets louder. The fluctuations were so smooth and
