Critique Offspring, a stylistically fresh Australian drama explores the chaos and joys of a Modern family. Produced by Southern Star Entertainment and created by Debra Oswald, Offspring first aired on August 15th 2010 on the Channel 10 network. Since then this life-affirming series has developed 5 successful series and connected with audiences’ worldwide. Following the vibrant journey of the Proudman family in Melbourne’s Fitzroy suburb, Offspring includes themes of love, fulfilment and the value of relationships. However Offspring has not been afraid to incorporate characters which don’t always replicay the ‘perfect’ lifestyle. Instead, the show displays flawed characteristics which help to depict and thus connect with the average person (Hunt, 2014). In particular the show is targeted at mature females as it follows the journey of Nina and her struggles in the workplace, finding love and the uncertainty of her family. While Nina’s character delves into the deeper issues of life, she also displays a confident and intelligent persona. This characteristic is observable throughout all of the series as Nina performs her duty as an obstetrician at St Vincent’s Hospital.
