Although people may have the best intentions and carefully-laid plans, factors outside their control can prohibit their dreams from becoming reality. Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck introduces main characters George and Lennie, who are put through a journey together leading to meet Curley’s wife and a few others. As time on the ranch continues both men experience ups and downs affecting most of the characters they meet. Tensions are built, lies are spread, and dreams get crushed and Curley's Wife is involved with all of them . Through the character(s) of Curly Wife, Steinbeck shows that issues outside the control of an individual often limit the achievement of an individual’s dreams. “Come there when I was a kid. Well a show come through an’ I met one of the actors. He says I could go with that show. Nother time I met a guy, an’ he was in pitchers. Went out to the Riverside Dance Palace with him. He says he was gonna put me in movies. Says I was a natural. Soons he got back to Hollywood he was going to write to me about” (Steinbeck). Curly’s wife expressed her true love of a Hollywood life, how a teenage breakup occurs, from anger to sorrowful she deeply missed her possibilities. Unfortunately, Curly’s Wife’s Mother prohibits Curly’s Wife from achieving her dream. All times through her dream, Curly’s Wife’s Mother was intended to break it apart. “But my ol’ lady wouldn’t let me. She says because I was on’y fifteen” (Steinbeck 88). At the age of fifteen, her Mother is in control of her, and with the possible letter, she has no indication of if it was sent or not. Curly’s wife has a dream to be rich and famous.
