Recommended: The justice in oedipus rex

Society faces justice and injustice everyday and everyone responds to it differently. Sometimes injustice is fate and cannot be altered like in Oedipus’ case. In Oedipus’ search for justice, he had many significant reactions which contributed to the play as a whole. Analyzing these reactions we come to terms that Oedipus had an excellent understanding of justice due to the fact that he wasn’t afraid to hold back the truth and he recognized situations in which he was being encountered with injustice.
Oedipus faced injustice since the moment he was born. The sole fact about not knowing the truth about your mere existence is in fact injustice. Though it did not seem as if he was facing injustice because he did not know about it, in reality it

After fleeing Corinth and his foster family, Oedipus gets into a skirmish with an older man. The reason for the fight was because, “The groom leading the horses forced me off the road at his lord’s command” (1336). Oedipus is filled with a rage after being insulted by the lord and feels the need to act. The two men fight, but Oedipus ends up being too much for the older man, and he kills him. What Oedipus is unaware of is that the man was actually his birth father and by killing him, Oedipus has started on the path of his own destruction. Not only does Oedipus kill his father, but also everyone else, “I killed them all” (1336). The other men had no part in the scuffle, but in his rage, he did not care who he was killing.
