What is equality?
Equality is allowing everyone to have equal opportunity including their own rights and status, regardless of who they are and where they have come from. It means to treat everyone equally but not the same. Every individual should be given equal opportunity within their needs. Every person should be allowed to make the most of their personal talents and their lives holistically. It means that regardless of circumstances, individuals should not be given poorer opportunities or life chances.

Who is at risk of experiencing discrimination?
Although it may be that everyone could potentially experience discrimination, there are certain individuals who are more at risk. This means that these individuals may be discriminated against …show more content…

These include within the workplace, schools, hospitals and other services that many use. The way that society is today means society as a whole is more equal. Individuals are encouraged to make friends, spend time with and work with others that they may not have previously. These are seen as the minority groups. Attitudes towards these groups have changed and many individuals are against discriminating people

Why is it relevant?
It is vital that individuals follow the rules of providing equality as without it, discriminatory behaviour is going to happen. This can have a huge impact on people and can affect their day to day lives. Those carrying out discriminatory behaviour may be because they have previously experienced it themselves. It may be a lack of understanding from different lifestyles, beliefs and differences between people and themselves.

This means that it is against the law for people or companies to discriminate against those who are disabled. The equality act enables those with a disability who are looking to be employed to be protected against areas such as application forms, interview arrangements, job offers, terms of employment (including pay etc...) This is because even if an individual is disabled, this should not put their future activities at risk. This is great as it still gives disabled people the right to live a normal life as any other person would. However, some people may see this as a bad thing. They may believe that because someone who cannot do day to day activities is becoming employed, that it may be too difficult for them to carry out a job. However, there are possible solutions to this such as providing them with extra support to do the job such as assistant who is there all the time to give them that extra support that they may need in future. Some of those who have a disability, may not show physical affects from it, it may just be mentally which could mean that in the majority of jobs, there is always something that
