“Physical activity is vital to the holistic development of young people, fostering their physical, social and emotional health” (Levesque). Sports affect a child's development in beneficial ways to encourage young athletes. Although starting sports at a young age can be harmful, it teaches children morals including responsibility, leadership, and determination. One third of the highest excelling students in high school participate in some type of sport. Of the children who are born into poverty, those who participate in sports have a higher chance of making it out and being successful in life. In America, one difficult problem is childhood obesity, playing sports can help alleviate obesity. Sports have an enormous impact on the youth of America, those who participate are going to be more developed and hard working individuals Playing sports at a young age teaches moral lessons such as being responsible, showing leadership skills, and it encourages self confidence. Two different types of character values exist and are evident in sport, social and moral. Typical social character include loyalty, dedication, sacrifice, teamwork, and good citizenship, while moral values include honesty, fairness, fair play, justice, and responsibility. Youth sports teaches multiple life lessons that are required to succeed in life. Sports encourage young athletes to have a desire to attend school and excel in their class work. A positive leisure time is very important when going through adolescence so kids are getting in trouble or engaging in dangerous activities. When schools have a high rate of kids participating sports there are less suspensions and violence in the community is dropped dramatically. Sports arent exactlly designed to fight obesity but they are a great way to prevent and get kids to be active and have an active adult
