OB-GYN: A Career Analysis

I’ve always wanted to work with babies, but I couldn’t figure out which occupation would best fit me. Then, I realized that I could become a doctor that brings new lives into the world, or an obstetrician/gynecologist (OB-GYN). The definition of an obstetrician and gynecologist is they study and take care of the female reproductive system. They help and monitor women during and after pregnancy. Also, they can diagnose many diseases to women like: cervical and breast cancer, menopause symptoms, and hormonal disorders. Becoming an OB-GYN will take a lot of hard work, dedication, good grades, and many years of schooling and training. I don’t want to live on campus so, I will have to provide my own housing and food. The acceptance rate of Arkansas State, in 2014, was 72.4%. Any major in science would be good for me to get my bachelor’s degree in. Biology, chemistry, or psychology are the main ones used by other people becoming OB-GYNs. While at ASU, I will apply to UAMS in Little Rock. Before I can go to medical school, however, I have to have certain classes, like chemistry, biology, math, physics, and humanities courses, but majoring in science should help me complete each of these and a few more that would improve my application to UAMS. There, I would get my Doctor of Medicine Degree (MD.) The tuition there is $29,204. To get in, I have to have all of the required courses in undergraduate school completed, do an on campus interview, have letters of recommendation, a GPA from 3.0 to a 4.0 in undergraduate and natural science, and a Graduate Record Examination. There are 676 students enrolled right now. After college, I would start my residency, or training, at a local hospital. I need a total of four years before I can start a fellowship, or another set of training. After completing residency and perhaps a fellowship, I can get my license from the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE,) and to get board certification I will have to pass a two day examination from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. To become licensed, I will have to meet all of the requirements from the Arkansas State Medical Boards and fill out an application and pay $500 in total. In conclusion, after I go to ASU, I will go to UAMS and get my MD and my license and
