NUTRITION In the United States, nutrition screening is a part of inpatient admission. The Joint Commission requires a nutritional screening to be completed within 24 hours of inpatient admission (Treas & Willkinson, 2014). Proper nutrition is important for staying healthy and is particularly vital for the elderly. For the purpose of this week discussion this learner will concentrate on explaining the health status of a 81 year old patient who presented at the primary care for a routine visit. We observed the patient height is around 72 inches and weight is 135 ponds. We will calculate the patient Body mass index (BMI) and interpret the result. With the help of a professional dietician, who is one of the health care team who can help patient that are risk for under nutrition. In Educating these patient we can concentrated in providing information on Healthy Eating As We Age, these included nutrients that the body required, Special Nutrition Concerns for Older Adults as we aged eating habits change but eating small amount with increased frequency can help, Be Active Your Way by being active this can help in maintaining a healthy body weight just by increased moving and decreased sedentary life style. (USDA, 2016). In conclusion, It is therefore important that all healthcare workers involved in direct patient care should appreciate the value of providing their patients with adequate nutritional education and be familiar with the possibilities for providing nutrition support if needed for example Meals on Wheels that provides nutritious meals to home bound older adults who are unable to prepare meals for themselves and have no one able and/or willing to provide meals for them as this organization does uses a balanced nutritious meal that meets USDA recommended daily dietary
