Nursing Home: Ethical Analysis

During my time at the nursing home, I was surprised to see how some of the patients were cared for. One of the patients I had was a very sweet woman, with a huge heart. She loved to visit with anyone who came by to see her and was always so excited to see us come in on Wednesdays. Sadly, however, When I cared for her I came to realize that she was not receiving proper ethical care. When I went to change her sheets, I had removed layers and layers of sheets and blankets that had just been stacked on top of each other instead of new sheets each day. Along with that, I had found used tissues within each layer of sheets. On the top sheet, there was also a used brief that was laying on the bed where her pillow is. As I continued to make her bed, I had a hard time locating her call light, come to find out her call light had been underneath her bed where she was unable to reach it. I was very surprised to see all of this and it bothered me knowing that these people rely on others to take care of them and they get treated poorly. During my time with her, we got to talk about God and she asked me how I am not worried and afraid of where the world is going, and I told her that I have trust in God’s plan, I know he is by my side and that this is not our permanent home, our home is in heaven with Jesus. Saying this to her and having this conversation appeared to brighten her spirits, and she asked me to pray for her, Which I do every night. Peace was evident in my clinical practice this week when I was caring for my patient. She was blind and relied on me to feed her and get her what she needed. While I was feeding her, she told me that she felt comfortable while I was around and just hearing my voice brought her
