Professor and Classmates- Here is my executive summary, I chose to write about; The Impact on Emerging technology on nursing care: Warp Speed Ahead., by Carol Huston, MSN, DPA, FAAN, The Online Journal of issues in Nursing. The audience that I'm that trying to reach is the nursing community, I chose this audience because this is what my career field will be in. However, in this document I feel as I addressed what my audience needs to know on the subject at hand, that I addressed information about the impact of technology on nursing care and training that should be taught in technology to make sure that nurses know how to use the technology . I hope to have written an informed and acceptable executive summary.

Robotics is growing due to an aging population and lack of nurses and a call for higher quality care. Huston,C ( 2013). Biometric signatures are already all over healthcare organizations, they provide the needed security for medical records. Clinical decision support will likely be commom place within a decade. As nurses we have to have the ability to use technology, training and understanding in all these fields will help us better function as an health care team. Huston, C (2013) We have to educate ourselves to stay up to date on all of the new technology,how to use it to the best of our ability, to make a more productive workplace and less stress on us nursesand patients. In a profession where knowledge is key learning the new advancement in technology will help us better to provide adiquite care to our patients in the most professional manner possible. Massachusetts (MA) Department of Higher Education, in coordination with nurses from Massachusetts nursing practice and education settings, developed the framework for professional nursing called the Nurse of the Future (NOF) Nursing Core Competencies (NCC) (Chamberlain college of nursing, 2015). This model includes the following competencies; Patient-centered care, Professionalism, Informatics and technology, Evidence-based practice (EBP) Leadership, Systems-based practice, Safety, Communication, Teamwork and collaboration and Quality improvement. The transitioning nurse must be able to communicate clearly and effectively. Often times nurses working in the community are alone where there is no other health team member present, therefore complete communication is essential. Transitioning nursing must possess knowledge of computer technology. The use of computer technology allows the nurse to communicate with other healthcare providers, facilitate care and manage complex healthcare needs (Bates et al., 2016, p.342). Furthermore, nurses transitioning from an acute care setting must be able to adaptable to any given situation or community. For example, supplies and equipment found in a hospital setting can be different than the one found in a client’s home. They must take the opportunity to gather information on how to utilize the supplies or equipment that may be unfamiliar. Finally, transitioning nurses must be knowledgeable about community resources. Knowledge of community resources can provide the opportunity to access and share information and help to improve the client’s quality of life (Bates et al., 2016, p.
After reading for this week assignment, I realized how in depth how useful informatics could be regarding which area of nursing practice you are at, and it is not just the use of computer when it comes to informatics. I would revise my definition of informatics is that informatics is the combination of nursing science, information science, and computer science. The use of informatics and technology helps to support the nursing practice, and it is associated with nursing education and nursing research (Mastrian & McGonigle, 2012).
According to the author, nursing practice needs to stay current with technological advances while keeping its identity as a patient focused profession. Nurses use technology to improve care from a patient?s perspective, both in quality of care and cost. At the same time, nurses must learn to balance technological knowledge with personal skills, thus providing optimum clinical care while maintaining a person-focused relationship with the patient.
As a consequence of this transformation, nurses would not be required to work round-the-clock to monitor the clients. Concerning this change, Michael, the head nurse at an excellent clinic, was quick to realize that technology would change the nursing industry tremendously. Nurses are now able to utilize their knowledge based on clinal assessment as a worker and encrypt data via the computer and other advanced technologies that were implemented. The nurse as a knowledge worker can now gather all patients clinical information or data and store it on the computers. They can also access information from the internet to help them to understand better with the standardized uses of technology and information and apply it to the healthcare setting. This would be beneficial because the nurses will gain knowledgeable information based on patient care or health-related issues so that they can apply in their practices. They would be able to provide crucial care to patients and assist them in any way possible.

In many fields, a wide range of nontechnical skills is now essential: leadership, teamwork, problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, interpersonal communication, information management (Fairchild and Taylor 2000; Rhodus and Hoskins 1995). For example, in organizations with flatter hierarchies, management responsibilities are now being downshifted to technicians (Magney 1996). Throughout time, nurses have worked hard, whether the profession was well respected or not, which is how many of the different changes have happened in nursing. This profession has been evolving continuously to shape what is happening in the nation and the world to continue to help the sick and injured. You can see throughout time what influences the events had on the changes in the field of nursing. Nursing will continue to evolve with new and different hospital structures and more advanced technology. No matter how advanced the gadgets become or how complex the job is, nurses will remain being caregivers and with vouch for the sick and at risk members of our communities.
Nursing has seen changes in recent years regarding informatics. Informatics has become a specialty in professional nursing as well as a requirement for competency in the workplace. Electronic health records and medication administration are just two pieces of basic informatics that many nurses deal with every day. Informatics should never take away from patient care, but instead be used as a tool to enhance and perfect care. With the impact informatics has on nursing, there are many changes coming, and I intend to play a role in the changes with my future as a nurse.
Issues and trends in the nursing profession are constantly changing due to discoveries in technology and research, changes in reimbursement and legislation, and the changing needs of our population; in fact the only constant in healthcare is change. This course has provided me with a foundation and better understanding of the need for higher education to empower nurses to become leaders and help shape the future of the nursing profession. A main part of a nurse’s job is gathering data and turning it into information that all of the healthcare takers can use. For example, a nurse must take vital signs as part of their “data” and in turn put it into the computer system as information. This information is used to help care for the patient.
