Since I was in grade school I’ve always wanted to have a profession in which I felt that I could help others. That coupled with my love of science and particularly of biology led me to the conclusion that I should search for a career in the medical field. Like any other child I thought the way to accomplish this was to become a doctor, but as I got older I realized that, while the doctors play a pertinent and invaluable role in the medical field, nurses create the backbone of patient care. With the changing healthcare system, advancements in medical technology, and an aging population, I want to be part of the solution to many of the problems that are sure to arise. I want to be part of the team that makes sure patients receive not only the quantity of attention and care they need, but also the quality. St. David’s School of Nursing was first recommended to me by my pharmacology professor at Austin Community College.
