North Korea Human Rights Issues
North Korea as we know is a communist country ruled by Kim Jong-Un. North Korea has been under the State’s radar from the nuclear threats to their human rights. They spark United State’s interest once more when the previous leader passed away and the duty was passed to the youngest son and now we are trying to dig deeper into the secrets that North Korea has been hiding away with the their barred wire to keep others from coming in. With the help of South Korea, we can explore the different levels of torture, inhumane activates, and the new leadership of Kim Jong-Un.
In the article, “The Right to Survival in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea talks about the pervious leader, Kim Jong Il and his tries to help his own country from dying and threats from non alliance. In page 90 Song writes about the main characteristic of their human rights, which are that the citizens’ duty and loyalty for the leader will be paid back protection and basic rights. Starting with ‘virtuous politics’, which is a list of things that they would do for birthdays and when you give birth to certain amount of babies or done something that impressed the leader. Kim Il Jong was unable to keep that promise with guarantee of food but something new was born out of that: ‘military-first politics’ (Song pg. 93). North Koreans was not happy with the fact that the leader couldn’t keep his own promise and something completely different came out of it and the family metaphor that was part of the ‘virtuous politics’ was no longer convincing to them and started to lose faith in their own leader that they once looked up to.
