Beavan in “No Impact Man” provides facts to persuade his readers. He doesn’t just throw out the facts, he includes them in a personal story. He brings us the readers into his head and family before presenting facts and thoughts that go through his head. For example, in chapter 6 Beavan tells us a story of his trip in the farmer’s market in mid-January. Asking himself questions like “Which vendor is better?” (Beavan, 116). Then talks about the dilemma of buying local only, that you have to only buy in season vegetables. Then from there Beavan jumps into Organic foods. He presents facts about how the certification for Organic seems to be targeting the larger farmers, rather than the local farmers. During this time, he may ask himself a question that also could be targeted to the reader to make them think on the issue along with him. After all this he explains how even though there have been difficulties, he has made it through them and in the end feels better about his choices. I do feel persuaded by his method of writing. Beavan includes different questions that he is thinking that also could relate to the reader and their thoughts. Beavan uses his family story because he understands people want a story to go along with this information about how to be a “No Impact Man.” Readers wouldn’t enjoy the book if it just contained a bullet point list of instructions and facts. The reader wants to hear a story. How this project has changed his life and his family? For my paper I still need to work on this section. So far my paper contains a lot of information, but needs something to keep the reader
