Under the deep blue water, Nixie the mermaid lived with her sister Pearl. They both lived in Ocean Grove, it is a city where everyone has a role in the community, Nixie delivered fresh seaweed to everyone’s living space and Pearl was part of the Mermaid council. It was Friday morning and Nixie just finished delivering seaweed to everyone’s living space, the last stop is her own cave. Nixie swims up to her cave and see’s Pearl staring at the picture of their parents. She swims up to her and puts a cold hand on her shoulder, Pearl jumps back and puts her own hand over her chest, “Nixie you startled me.” she says with surprise. Nixie just laughs with a sparkle in her purple eyes. Pearl sighs and says “I just miss them, I am sorry you never …show more content…
“I don’t know what to say Nixie…” Nixie looks her sister in the eyes and says “Just say yes, and we can see where it goes from there, or….” “Or what?” says Pearl. “Or come with me!” Pearls didn’t seemed as surprised as Nixie thought she would be when she asked, “I..I can’t leave the Council, they need me here to keep order” Nixie took in a deep breath because what she was about to say was going to be very difficult. Her sister was the closest person she had to her. Pearl was the one who basically raised her, made a living for both of them, and kept Nixie out of trouble. “Then can I go by myself?” She wasn’t about to stutter now, she wasn’t going to show Pearl her anxiety that was eating her inside out. Pearl got wide eyed, and started to say “N—, well I guess, You know what?!” Nixie was confused, “What?” she said breathlessly, “Well, I think it would be good for you, I mean to travel, find what you enjoy, if it’s traveling, I guess I have to let you go sometime right?” Nixie’s heart was beating so fast she swore it was a racehorse ready for a race because she had things packed in less than ten minutes. “I think I am ready!” Pearl looked at her with sad eyes, “your not going to change your …show more content…
There she was, another mermaid, who got out a pointed object that she couldn't make out, and she said, “Let go of her or you know what happens!” As she pointed the pointy object towards him, and in a quick movement, the octopus let go of Nixie’s tail and swam off. Nixie watched him as he got further and further away, she looked down at her tail, which had a dark blue rim on it from where the octopus had grabbed her so tight. She cringed in pain, “Don’t worry it will go away in a few days or so, I would just put some seaweed around it for now” said the other mermaid. Nixie looked at her confused, she had forgotten she had saved her and forgot to thank her, “Thank you!” She said hastily, “I don’t think we have met, I’m-“ Nixie started to say before she got rudely interrupted “There is no time for that, we have to go before someone see’s us over here” Said the other mermaid, then she grabbed nixie by her hand and quickly dragged her through the
(Russell 35) playing house on the beach by sweeping up jellyfish, or walking around school wearing flippers. (Russell 35) Olivia’s bizarre behavior although seeming to be strange in life turned divine in death. Before she died Olivia was known for drawing places that were other worldly, places that couldn’t have existed at least to the knowledge of her family. When timothy saw the message written in ghostly shrimp he remembered her drawings and questioned their validity. He wondered whether it was possible that these drawings of Olivia’s were real and if she had managed to seek safety in the Glowworm Grotto. Their sister had given them more hope with this revelation and with it they came closer to the closure they both
Laura channels a hyper-attentive, almost frenetic energy into monitoring a sick dolphin at an animal rescue lab. She rides the ferry back and forth across the bay late at night. She steals bottles of nail polish, slashes at her palms and wrists with seashells, and throws sweet tea in the face of a stranger who tells her “I’m still just so broken up about your boy.”
Bethany Hamilton is a teenager who lives in Kauai, Hawaii with her parents Tom and Cheri, and two older brothers. All are surfers, but Bethany has grown up with a desire for surfing and enters several competitions. In 2003, while Tom goes to the hospital for knee surgery, both of the girls go surfing with Alana's father and brother. As Bethany dangles her left arm in the water, a shark bites it off near the shoulder.
“The water was crystal-clear and calm. The waves were small and inconsistent, and I was just kind of rolling with them, relaxing on my board with my right hand on the nose of the board and my left arm dangling in the cool water.” She writes in her book ‘Soul Surfer’. “I remember thinking, ‘I hope the surf picks up soon…’ when suddenly there was a flash of gray.” Bethany Hamilton’s life changed forever Halloween morning of 2003. The picture perfect morning was put to a halt when a fourteen foot tiger shark severed Bethany’s arm below her shoulder. At just thirteen years old, her dreams of becoming a professional surfer were seemed to be ripped from her grasp. Bethany pushed through her hard times with her strong, resilient ambition to do what

Arriving at Lacey’s house I walk to the backdoor letting myself into the house. Lacey was putting on tanning lotion in the kitchen, “Lacey,” I called to her, “my mom wants me to pick up snacks for the beach, do you want to go into town with me?”, “Sure,” she replied, “do you mind if my cousin comes with us?”, “Of course I don’t mind,“ I answered, “but we have to get moving, my dad only left me the car to use ‘til noon.”
She came to the top of the sand and peeked over to make sure nobody was there. Sure enough, everybody was inside getting their rest. She started walking next to the beach at where the tide came in, listening to the waves hit the water. It was a peaceful night until she fell over something and landed with a thud. Something moaned and she hoped it wasn’t a human or else she would have been sent to animal control like that. A figure stood up and Foxleen soon recognized it was another fox. “My name is Foxy,” the other fox said with his hand out for Foxleen to shake. Foxleen and Foxy had an instant connection, they talked until the sun came up. Foxleen then said her goodbyes and started walking back up the beach. Foxy had a desire to be with Foxleen and couldn’t let her walk away without knowing if they would meet again. Foxy walked up to her and started walking with her. She didn’t care one bit and played along with it. He asked Foxleen why she didn’t stay in the daylight and she explained to him why and what would happen if she got caught. Foxy was so surprised to hear that the humans could be that mean. He was also surprised that she had never heard of the animal beach that was a couple miles down the beach from where they were. Foxy took Foxleen to the beach and to her surprise there were many animals there including her friends. They ran up to her to
“Do you know she is going to die, Jewel?” Darl said. “It takes two people to make you, and one people to die.” I said to Dewey Dell: “You want her to die so you can get to town: is that it?” She wouldn’t say what we both knew. “The reason you will not say it is, when you say it, even to yourself, you will know it is true: is that it? But you know it is true now.
In a far away land on a beautiful sunny day, everyone on Enki Island was along the beach line basking in the sun and swimming in the ocean enjoying the beautiful day. It was the most perfect day they’ve had in years. Nothing bad was bound to happen. The birds were singing, the waves were a perfect height for surfing, and even the ice cream truck was open to the island that day. It couldn’t have been anymore perfect. Until, all of a sudden, Enki made her appearance.
The feeling of the cold water around me was really waking me up. Swirling crystal green-blue water and tree branches gently floated past me as my mom and I made our way into the lagoon. I blinked my blue eyes to clear the liquid from my goggles. And then I saw it; a grey manatee, swimming slowly in the water with it’s tail swishing up and down softly. The real mermaids. We weren't allowed to (deep breath) yell near/at, touch, feed, hit, kick, poke, kick sand at, kidnap the baby manatees, swim over, ride, kayak over, touch the sand in a way the irritated anyone, or wake up the sleeping manatees. Manatees were endangered at that time, so of course the place had a bajillion rules to protect them. Still, it was manatee heaven, nonetheless.
From the story of a small orange clownfish Nemo, who gets separated from his father to one of a girl who finds out that she has a family who has been searching for her for years. Dory has been known as the comedic character whose life changed the minute she collided with Nemo's father Marlin. Now in this new movie, Dory, a kindhearted blue tang fish, is in search to find her long lost parents who have been looking for her since her departure from the Jewel of Morro Bay in California. Due to Dory having Anterograde amnesia, her memory only last about 10 seconds or so, however she has the ability to retrieve crucial glimpses of memory. When she had left the institution, she had forgotten about her family along with the life she once had. It wasn’t until one day, she vaguely remembered her parents playing hide and seek with her when she was a child. Finding Dory is an amazing film because of the great voice acting, the well
Mary is the next character that is introduced to the reader, and she is a very large part of the story. One day while Mary is at the beach a body washes up on the shore with many cabbages, kettles, and barrels of whiskey. She drags the body to the shore where she lies in the man's arms until he dies. This man was believed to have been from an "other world" and this had a big effect on Mary. She falls in love with this sailor, even though he is dead, and it casts a sort of spell on her. Mary is known to the rest of the village as "away" which means she is enchanted by this other world, the world of the sea. She felt as though her spirit were not in her humanly body anymore, and did not even consider herself Mary anymore. The spirits of the lake had given her a new name, Moira, and that is what she preferred to call herself. The villagers had no hope for, except for Father Quinn.
Carol realized that she had to live her life with her daughter. Carol, who found insurmountable joy from music, would never know she was different from other children. Pearl found comfort in that fact that the burden and stress of life would never fall on her daughter. The next decision that came to Pearl was if she should put her daughter in a home. Pearl had a fear that she would die then who would care for Carol. A girl told Pearl Carol would no longer be invited to her parties and Pearl realized Carol should be people who...

Mom and I are left at the airport to check bags. No Way! We forgot to change our
Rolling waves gently brushed upon the sand and nipped softly at my toes. I gazed out into the oblivion of blue hue that lay before me. I stared hopefully at sun-filled sky, but I couldn’t help but wonder how I was going to get through the day. Honestly, I never thought in a million years that my daughter and I would be homeless. Oh, how I yearned for our house in the suburbs. A pain wrenched at my heart when I was once reminded again of my beloved husband, Peter. I missed him so much and couldn’t help but ask God why he was taken from us. Living underneath Pier 14 was no life for Emily and me. I had to get us out of here and back on our feet. My stomach moaned angrily. I needed to somehow find food for us, but how? Suddenly, something slimy brushed up against my leg and pierced my thoughts. I jumped back and brushed the residue of sand of my legs. What was that? As my eyes skimmed the water in front of me, I noticed something spinning in the foam of the waves. Curiosity got the best of me and I went over to take a closer look. The object danced in the waves and eventually was coughed out onto the beach. “Emily!” I called to my eight-year-old daughter who was, at that time, infatuated with a seashell that she found earlier that day. “Come here and see this! Mommy found something.” Although I had no idea what that something was and I definitely didn’t know it would change my life forever.
