Nile Delta Location Essay

In order for Civilizations to expand and survive a lasting life; trade and exploration must be present. Thus, the development of a society being shaped and limited by its geography. If I had the ability to choose where to create a civilization amidst the years 1,000-1,200, based on a location’s geographical benefits, I would determine the northeast bank of the Nile Delta in what was then apart of Fatimid Caliphate ruled Egypt, to be the optimum choice. The three geographical features owed to my decision are the abundantly fertile lands along the delta. Being suited for the building of a canal as the narrowest stretch of land separating the Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea. Lastly and consequently, the possibility as a focal point of trade and foreign interactions of the Old World, due to its gained access to surrounding nations. Being seated at the east end of the Nile Delta is a prominent geographical feature. The Nile River allows access to much of Eastern Africa and ease to extend the civilization’s size and wealth south, along the river. A great benefit of the Nile Delta, is the extremely fertile silt deposited, largely by predictable, regular flooding and access to fresh water for irrigating extensive land cultivation and as a source of water for fish farming by using small canals.
