In 1988 Niggas With Attitudes, better known as N.W.A debuted their album Straight Out of Compton. Track two, Fuck Tha Police is debatably the most controversial song that the group has ever released and still displays major relevance in our society, even thirty-one years later. Arabian Prince, MC Ren, Ice Cube, Eazy-E, DJ Yella and Doctor Dre used this track as a method of bringing awareness to racial profiling and police brutality. To some the track was a direct attack on law enforcement due to its approval of violence against them. N.W.A’s aesthetics addressed issues with Law Enforcement that manifests in neighborhoods in the midst socioeconomic catastrophe by way of anti-law enforcement agendas embedded in their music.

In the early 1990s immigrants began to move in and the crack epidemic peaked. Murder as a result of gang violence skyrocketed as well. However, the Bloods and Crips called in truce in an attempt to unify against the police. The beating of Rodney King and the Murder of Latasha Harlins by law enforcement threw the city into an outrage and they began to riot. The riot ceased in 5 days. In the end fifty-three people were killed and damage costs were estimated at around one billion dollars. Contrary to popular belief, the riots were not an act of random violence. Fuck tha Police is a masterpiece in it’s ability to entertain as well as inform. N.W.A allows us to view police brutality with a scope through their word play, and quite frankly not much has changed since the 80’s. Officers are still abusing their authority, with no regards for minority life.
