New York Fashion Week is the semi-annual, cultural phenomenon that leads the fashion industry, growing each year; it has come from featured stories of hotel lobbies and designers in magazines to a globally anticipated event that, with the help of technology and social media, is seen across the world inspiring millions of individuals and helping introduce new designer trends and with these trends, new societal expectations for the models who proudly wear them. The concept of fashion is a major part of the various cultures throughout the world and has been for centuries. By the early 1900's the idea of hiring models to present the upcoming fashion lines eventually spread through the rest of Europe and across the Atlantic to North America. The hype for fashion shows exploded in the United States when retail stores each began to put on their own isolated fashion shows at various times throughout the year. The first single, official fashion show in the U.S. occurred in 1903 at Enrich Brothers, a designer specialty shop of New York City (1). Within the end of the same decade the idea of fashion shows had been imported from France large, affluential department stores started staging fashion shows to attract women to the latest couture dresses, original styles from Paris and the stores own replications. Fashion shows spread from select majors cities to the entire United States by the 1920's. Through the use of mass produced technology in the twenty-first century fashion week reached a broader audience and as a result introduced numerous changes. Years ago when editors attended fashion shows they did not publish any photographs of the designs in magazines until months later, closer to when the designs were available to the general public, emergence of social networking sites such as Instagram around 2010, pictures from the shows are available instantly. Designer's transitioned from their clothing lines being available for purchase the following season to directly after their show ended to accommodate the consumer's demand of "see now, buy now." New York Fashion week is more targeted at consumers than ever with 2016 being the first year their attendance dominated the fashion shows over writers, bloggers, and photographers. Due to technology virtual shows have developed. Companies are filming fashion shows, including behind the scene footage and exclusive interviews, and streaming it straight to people's homes
