In the New England area, the weather is very unpredictable due to the following reasons. New England sits right in the middle of the Jet Stream, a weather pattern that remains fairly consistent as it guides the weather for the entire United States. To the north of the Jet Stream, you have very cold Arctic air, and to the south of it, you have the warm moist Gulf air. These two factors help to create a very unstable atmosphere that can change the forecast of the weather at anytime.
Many New England states lie along bodies of water. This can also create an irregular weather environment because the warm air off the water can turn snow to rain in the winter, and a warm sunny day to a very chilly one in the summer. Elevation can also become a problem with weather forecasters due to the fact that the elevations of the New England states are all different. So at any one time, it can be snowing in New Hampshire, Raining in Massachusetts, cloudy in Rhode Island and Foggy in Connecticut. The randomness of such weather is the reason why, in New England if you do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will change… do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will change… do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will change… do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will change… do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will change… do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will change… do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will change… do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will change…
The New England and the Southern colonial settlements were united in several areas that created the opportunity for each group of colonies to grow. However, these groups of colonies took divergent paths when it came to the founders’ motives to settle the New World, the importance of religious and social orientation, economic approaches and political developments. These different approaches were ultimately successful beyond the early founders’ expectations.
Two unique societies were constructed by people of common origin. These English colonists immigrated to the New World for either economic prosperity or religious freedom. During colonization, two regions were formed, New England and the Chesapeake Bay area. The two contrasting societies of New England and Chesapeake region were the results of diversity of: social and family structure; health and living conditions; economy; religion and beliefs; and government policies.
First of all, they both were Puritan, but the founder of Connecticut, Thomas Hooker, did not agree with the laws and leadership in Massachusetts. So, when he got the opportunity, he convinced his family and about 100 other Massachusetts colonists to move to a fertile valley along a river to the west of Massachusetts. The second difference between Massachusetts and Connecticut connects with the first difference. John Winthrop, the founder of Massachusetts made strict laws about religion, such as, you could only be Puritan, or you were punished severely. However, Connecticut laws stated that, you could still be accepted in Connecticut if you were not Puritan. So, Connecticut copied Massachusetts’ religious practices, but when it came to non-Puritan colonists, they were less strict about acceptance. Another difference was how hard it was for the colonies to be successful. Massachusetts had to rely on the local Indians to get through the first winter, while the Connecticut colonists were already there, because they came from Massachusetts. As you can see, Massachusetts and Connecticut had some differences that altered the colonies’ way of
In the 17th century, the British colonies still identified themselves as European, but as the colonies expanded and grew more populous, they developed differing geographic, social, and economic systems. This difference between New England, and Chesapeake, is caused by the motivations for settlement between the two regions. While the New England colonies were mainly settled for religious motivations, most notably by the Puritans, the Chesapeake colonies were settled for economic prosperity. Also, while the Chesapeake colonies were mainly settled by individual young men seeking a profit, the New England colonies were settled by families hoping to settle and expand.
One of the two first colonies established in the new world was The Chesapeake Bay colonies which included Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The second was the Massachusetts Bay colonies including what now is the present-day central New England, portions of the U.S. states of Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The colonies are very similar but also different in their own distinct ways. The differences gave the colonies identities. A big resemblance between the colonies is that both left to create a new life out of England. Both settlements represented a new time of independence and development of religion. Mutually both groups went through a lot of suffering and pain in the accomplishment of such
Have you ever wondered why the Tampa Bay area is always so hot and storms every afternoon in the summer time? Living in Tampa my whole life I never thought twice about why every day in the summer time we were hit with an afternoon thunderstorm, it was just common knowledge. Tampa Bay is in Florida, and also known as the lightning capital of the United States of America. Florida is right at the most south eastern portion of the United States and is a peninsula, so the conditions are just right for afternoon thunderstorms. There is much more than just simple evaporation and precipitation going on, there is a list of consistent factors at play that cause the Tampa Bay area to receive these thunderstorms. Some of the factors that cause Tampa Bay to have such a predictable climate are the air masses surrounding the south eastern portion of the United States and cold fronts coming from the west.
The characteristics that came to shape the life in New England were the rocky, barren soil, the extreme climate and the rich waters. Although there was farming in New England , colonists looked to other means of survival. They looked to the rich waters for fishing and trade. The coastline of New England was very fertile with sealife. So, fishing became a way of commerce and trade providing a steady economy to New England. Because of the rocky soil and extreme climate, the colonists were forced to plant many different crops on a small pa...
Although the New England and Chesapeake regions of the United States were both settled by the English in the 1600s, they developed into two very different communities based mainly on their geographical location and religious devotion. Unlike their European rivals, the English founded colonies in North America.
During the 1600's, many people in the American colonies led very many different lives, some better than others. While life was hard for some groups, other colonists were healthy and happy. Two groups that display such a difference are the colonists of New England and Chesapeake Bay. New Englanders enjoyed a much higher standard of living. This high standard of New England's was due to many factors, including a healthier environment, better family situation, and a high rate of reproduction.
Like Massachusetts, Connecticut was made by the Puritans. It was an early agreement between the other community colonies, that established a representative of government based on the number of people who lived in Massachusetts. The purpose was to describe the government set up and setting its structures and power. They were the first of the thirteen colonies to allow religious freedom. They felt people of Connecticut believed that people shouldn’t be persecuted for their religious beliefs the way they were in England. As more and more of the English were coming over the Natives started to see that they we outnumbered and became frustrated. The war between the two ruined not only the peace between the settlers and the Natives, but also killed a lot people on both sides. This was a sad time for both the Natives and
As colonies of the British Empire, both the New England and Chesapeake regions were inhibited by innumerable immigrants of English origin. Despite this common characteristic, the two areas greatly differed from each other. New England was more tolerant and community based whereas the Chesapeake was focused more directly on personal wealth and land. While they both drew from British influence, the distinct conditions in each region caused them to develop separately and become unique in their own way.
The culture of New England was one unique to New England. The northern colonies of New England were dominated by the Puritans, and settled primarily for religious reasons. The environment of New England consisted of rocky soil, dense forests, and large numbers of fish (Sarcelle, 1965). The culture that developed in New England was appropriate to such conditions.
The settlement pattern in New England Colonies during 1600 to first half of 1700 was
Furthermore, weather is conditions that occurred very recently or are currently happening at a particular location. For example, people might say, “The sky is really clearing up!” or maybe, “It snowed 6 inches last night.” The current temperature, dew-point, relative humidity, cloud cover, and precipitation all have to do with the weather. The fundamental cause of weather is the effect of the Sun and the Earth due to the fact that
